A disappointment
Initally I was quite enthuastic about this book. The author's writing style is excellent, the pictures and maps are excellent, and it was selling for an excellent price. It has lots of wonderful and interesting information about the history and times of the first century. But when I discovered that the author does not regard the Bible as the inspired word of God, I was sorely disappointed. There are a number of places thoughout the text where the author questions the accuracy of the Bible, even going so far as to cast doubt upon whether or not Jesus actually said the things the Bible states that He said. He also suggests that the Gospel writers did not get their facts straight. If a person can read through this book and disregard his dubious comments, then it might be "okay", but this is definately not something you would want to give to a new believer or someone who is not firmly rooted in his or her beliefs.
