Heartwarming Romance!---4.5 stars In the Irish Healer, Nancy Herriman has crafted a tender tale that takes our lovely young heroine, Rachel Dunne, from the lush blue-green, heather-filled hills of Ireland, to the sooty gray, crowded streets of 1830s London. Rachel is known as a healer in her native Ireland, but after being accused of murdering a patient under her care, Rachel flees to London. She secures employment with a wealthy physician, James Edmunds, but only to help him pack and organize his belongings, vowing never to be a healer ever again. Dr. Edmunds, is hiding his own secret demons, and is in the process of closing down his practice and retiring on his country estate. Upon visiting, Finchingfield, as James's estate is called, Rachel falls in love with the emerald covered hills, his charming reddish brick home, and lovely fenced garden, and James Edmunds. However she knows a discredited Irish healer would never make an appropriate mistress there, and keeps her feelings towards the good doctor hidden. As secrets begin to unfurl, will their budding love for one another turn into mutual contempt? Will Rachel learn to forgive herself for the death that occurred under her care?.. and more importantly, forgive God for allowing it to happen? When cholera strikes will she rescind her vow never to be a healer again? The further I got into this book, the more I loved it! It is truly a heartwarming, romantic tale of forgiveness and redemption. The main characters were very realistic, struggling with an undeserved lack of self worth and unforgiveness. The spiritual thread is strong, and with a satisfying conclusion, I believe we have alot to look forward to in the future by Nancy Herriman. Very nicely written! Great Christian Historical Fiction A Review of THE IRISH HEALER March 7th, 2012 Today IÃ¢ÂÂm reviewing THE IRISH HEALER by Nancy Herriman, published by Worthy Publishing. This is a historical romance set in London. Irish healer Rachel Dunne sails for London intending to leave her life as a healerÃ¢ÂÂand the scandal that begins when she is unfairly accused of letting a child die in her care. She goes to work for an English physician, James Edmunds, who is haunted by secrets of his own. She intends it to be temporary employment until she can get a job as a teacher, and never to reveal her healing abilities; he intends to take up country life and leave behind what he believes are his failings as a doctor, and he certainly never wants to fall in love again. But when a cholera epidemic strikes London, both must put their intentions aside to fight it, and in the process they learn much about each other and begin to fall in love. This is a tender, gentle love story that shows how true, lasting love can grow gradually but endures forever. I was impressed by the depth of factual research that enhances the story but never overwhelms it. I learned a lot about the state of Victorian medicine, and even more about compassion in this story, and how trust, love and GodÃ¢ÂÂs grace really can heal the heart. I was impressed at the lengths that the heroine went to help a fellow servant who had shown her only scorn and who had sought to return her evil for good. I look forward to reading more by talented author Nancy Herriman. This book was provided free for review by the publisher.
