Product Description

The Indispensable Guide series offers tightly focused, relatively brief, accessible, and practical books for students in seminary, alternate paths to ministry groups, and lay ministry programs. Each book introduces core concepts, provides ample illustrations, and includes a helpful resource list.

Dr. Sharyl Peterson discusses the different types of pastoral care necessary in the contemporary church. In order to prepare those who will be offering this sort of ministry, or those who want to improve their skills, she discusses the theological issues behind care-giving and offers practical guidance. Dr. Peterson also offers resources both ancient and modern that will help pastoral care-givers to grow in their effectiveness.

Publisher's Description

This guide presents a basic description of both theological and practical dimensions of pastoral care, what makes care distinctly "pastoral," as compared to other kinds of caregiving. The teaching approach used here is both conceptual and practical. Readers will explore basic concepts important in understanding each area of care, and learn how to use both traditional and contemporary resources in improving the care they offer.
