Tell us a little about yourself. I'm a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and the author of The Unfinished Gift. I also serve as a pastor in the Daytona Beach area, where I live with my wife and son. My daughter is married and lives in Fort Worth, TX.
What was your motivation behind this project? The Homecoming is a sequel to my first novel, The Unfinished Gift. I didn't intend to write a sequel, but it became obvious after I finished the first book that the main characters had another important story to tell. While The Unfinished Gift was a story of forgiveness and reconciliation, the sequel is a love story.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope they will be thoroughly entertained and inspired. But there's a particularly encouraging Scriptural theme throughout the book, that God really does work all things together for good to those who love Him, including mending a heart that feels broken beyond repair.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I loved getting the chance to spend another year with the characters in The Unfinished Gift, whom I had come to love almost like family. It also gave me a chance to revisit some significant things God has taught me about His wisdom and goodness, even in the midst of heartbreaking loss.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: My third novel, The Deepest Waters, begins a new storyline. It's inspired by a true story that took place in 1857, when a newlywed couple is separated on their honeymoon voyage by a terrible shipwreck. It will also be published by Revell, due out in the spring of 2011.
