Product Description

Francis Schaeffer puts Evangelicalism into focus here in THE GREAT EVANGELICAL DISASTER. Is it doomed or does some reconstruction have to be done in the name of Christianity. He says we must remove the "last barrier against the breakdown of our culture." He expects social chaos and the rise of authoritarianism in some form to restore social order. Can it be done with a loving confrontation?

This is a great book - although written 30 years ago, it is right on target for today! Clearly outlines how liberal theology has influenced the church over the last century and how evangelicals have accommodated the demand to 'soften' God's authority instead of firmly, but lovingly, refusing to compromise God's truth. This is a must read!

Francis Schaeffer wonders why in the midst of the shift toward liberalism in our day the Church has been very silent. While there are Christians who believe the truth, many of them aren't standing up for it. Schaeffer also emphasizes the need for evangelicals to disagree with grace and not to stop loving those who are on wayward paths. As a moving testimony about the times we live in, The Great Evangelical Disaster forces each of us to look inward and see whether or not we are standing for the truths which Christ has revealed to us in scripture. If we are, it also causes us ask ourselves whether we are loving those who disagree with us while unashamedly proclaiming the truth to them. As the familiar chorus goes, "They will know we are Christians by our love."
