This book looks at his roots and the role of gospel in his foundational years, as well as the comfort, solace and strength it offered him in the years of his meteoric rise in popularity. From the All-Night sings he attended in his youth to the gospel quartets he incorporated into his shows, Elvis insisted on having constant access to the music he loved. He found it to be a source of comfort when the demands of his career were too much. He used it as a way to stay in shape vocally or to pass the time while on movie sets. He gathered friends, family and admirers in his suite after shows to unwind during which Gospel was the music of chioce. It was enrichment, it was comfort, it was home for him.

Publisher's DescriptionGospel music was a significant
part of not only who Elvis became as a man, but as an artist as well. As Elvis mania continues to consume generation after generation throughout the world, fans still crave new insights into the person of Elvis Presley. This book takes a look at his roots and the role of gospel in his foundational years, as well as the comfort, solace, and strength it offered him in the years of his meteoric rise in popularity. THE GOSPEL SIDE OF ELVIS is a rarely explored aspect of this American icon and one that reveals so much about the Elvis so many have yet to discover. David Crumm and ReadTheSpirit.comJoe Moschero was part of a gospel quartet that performed with Elvis for a number of years, so this is a heart-felt memoir by someone who loved him. Nevertheless, among the hundreds of books about Elvis, this one explores an important spiritual thread that ran through his entire life.
It's not a heavy book. It's a quick read. I don't claim to be an Elvis scholar, but I'll bet there are not a lot of factual revelations here. This is, quite simply, a charming and personal reflection on an important aspect of this complex artist's life. Priscilla Presley says in her introduction, "I have always felt this side of Elvis has never fully been explored -- for it was truly the foundation of his style, his spirit and his passion. ... When he would sit down at a piano, he would invariably chooe a gpsoel song over a song a listener may think he would choose." It's a fun book. A good gift for someone you know who fondly recalls Elvis and his music. Product ReviewsProduct Q&AFind Related Products
