Product Description

Since its inception, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the Mormons) has attempted to legitimize itself by linking itself to Christianity. But is there really any connection between Mormonism and Christianity? Ed Decker and Dave Hunt say no. They argue, in fact, that Mormonism has much more to do with pagan, self-deification beliefs than with the truths revealed in Christianity.

The God Makers was first published in 1984, and this revised edition appeared in 1997. Since its first edition, it has attracted a lot of attention, from both inside and outside Mormonism. And while many leaders in the Mormon church are vehemently upset about the claims made in the book, none have yet been able to disprove any of the book's claims.

What kind of claims do Decker and Hunt make? The most important is the revelation that Mormonism is founded on the belief that humans can become gods. God, according to official Mormon doctrine, was once a human who went on to become a god. And even though this heretical concept was discussed and disputed by Christians in their early history, Mormonism still claims its connection to Christianity. Official Mormon teaching states that the founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, received a revelation from angels saying that the Christian church was now apostate, after the true Christian message was distorted in the first century of the church. Smith's revelations are thought to be a restoration of true Christian beliefs, so Mormonism confidently claims to be the true Christian church.

These two claims, that we can become gods and that a new revelation to the church was necessary, are easy to dispute biblically. Yet because Smith and his followers have couched their pagan philosophy in Christian terms, they continue to maintain their legitimacy. And the Mormons have put on a very respectable face, showing themselves as supporters of family and moral decency. But Decker and Hunt remind us that behind the public image arepotentially dangerous and destructive doctrines. And they expose some of the inconsistencies in Mormon thought and doctrine. Thus, their book continues to have a phenomenal impact, particular with those dissatisfied with the Mormon church.

Publisher's Description

"This book is dynamite! The most powerful thing I've read on the subject. Get your Mormon friends to read it."
--Dr. John MacArthur
Pastor-Teacher, Grace Community Church, CA

Mormons claim to follow the same God and the same Jesus as Christians. They also state that their gospel comes from the Bible. But are they telling the truth? The God Makers, one of the most powerful books to penetrate the veil of secrecy surrounding the rituals and doctrines of the Mormon Church, reveals the inner workings and beliefs of Mormonism. Through personal interviews and well-documented evidence, you'll discover the true nature of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its hidden worldwide agenda.

I found this book to be a well-documented and informative piece on what the Mormon "Church" is about. In a nutshell, the book shows that it is essentially a neo-pagan cult, with deep ties to occult practices and Freemasonry, and with little more than a nominal relationship (largely in the name of the organization) to Jesus or the Christianity of the New Testament. While I am less sanguine than the authors about the idea that this organization bears a significant possible relationship to the coming of the Antichrist as foretold in Revelation, I have no trouble with the idea that they have shown it to be a thoroughgoing fraud. The book is very readable and, for a work on religion, a page-turner.

Pure BUNK! There are so many claims in this book, about what the LDS (Mormon) Church teaches, that simply arent accurate. Decker describes many doctrines that he claims to be actual LDS beliefs. Too bad for him and everyone else, that his research and writing is so faulty. Many of the claims arent even close to LDS theology. This book has been sold for years in various Christian Bookstores. I added quote marks, because I thought these bookstores were supposed to be honest reflections of Christ. If they genuinely are, then why would they sell a book so full of dishonesty and deception? Even if Decker chooses not to believe in the LDS religion, he should at least get his information and facts straight! Its only selling point is that it makes the reader feel religiously and intellectually superior to the LDS faithful. This is no different than what makes tabloid TV & newspapers so popular. In both Deckers books and tabloid journalism, it caters to the lowest denominator of people and their need to feel superior to others; To those who are truly uninformed concerning the LDS Church and enjoy being puffed up by secret (and inaccurate) sensationalism about LDS doctrines and Church.

This book is by far the best and truest work on what the Mormon cult really is. I was blown away when I read it, and have re-read it many times. My copy is so dog eared and underlined, it's almost unreadable! Ed Decker, as a former Mormon (like myself) does not hold anything back, but tells the truth about Mormonism honestly and openly. Everything Mr. Decker talks about in the book was taught openly in the Mormon Church until about 25-30 years ago, when they decided to cover their tracks and "act Christian". Many new converts to the LDS cult and younger LDS deny the things in the book because the LDS authorities decided to "cover them up" after "The Godmakers" came out, so recent LDS members have not been taught the things in Decker's book. But that does not mean they were not taught, (or in the case of the temple "rituals" performed) or that they did not exist at one time or still exist in LDS doctrine. "The GodMakers" pulled off the pretty lid of the LDS Church and showed the disgusting, seething filth that really lies underneath. This book is a must read for anyone who must deal daily with Mormons, especially evangelical Christians, so that they will not be swayed by this satanic counterfeit cult.
