Publisher's Description

A leading evangelical thinker offers this brand-new way of addressing life's most important questions: Does God exist, and can we know Him? J.P. Moreland, distinguished professor of philosophy at Talbot School of Theology, abandons traditional didactic apologetics and entices skeptics and dissatisfied believers into a conversation about the emptiness and anxiety so many feel today. He invites them to the abundant life Jesus offers but that so few seem to be experiencing.

Moreland shows that people are created by a benevolent God and given a life-enhancing purpose. He empowers readers to...

  • overcome obstacles to faith, including questions about science and religion
  • embrace an enticing view of Jesus and the kingdom of God
  • replace unhelpful images of God with the truth

Readers will find practical and effective ways to experience intimacy with God, an effective life of prayer, and a confident hope in life after death.

ChristianBookPreviews

Theologian and author Moreland offers a very friendly and pointed gospel presentation in this, his latest volume. He begins by describing the condition many would like to have characterize their lives, then shows why this is not possible. After showing how only God can fill the ‘happiness void’ in life, he continues to show how that transformed life is lived out in practical means. The decade Moreland spent with Campus Crusade is evident. Those familiar with Campus Crusade’s presentation of the gospel will recognize it easily in this book. Moreland, however, takes special care to not present the gospel in clinical seminarian tones; indeed, he brings in many personal illustrations, and makes the book’s narration more of a dialogue over a cup of coffee. He anticipates the questions and arguments that may be raised and deftly presents well-reasoned arguments for his own position.

The God Question would be a great volume to discuss with a co-worker or friend. The writing will stimulate profitable further discussions concerning Christianity, religion and life’s purpose. Moreland remains very faithful to an orthodox and evangelical interpretation of Scripture. The believer would also profit from a careful reading of this book, as Moreland investigates what authentic discipleship looks like in modern society. It is challenging, thought-provoking and scripturally based to display the reality of following Christ in a twenty-first century setting. – Charles L. Elred, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Editorial Reviews

"You can seek and find true happiness. But unless you have the Author of happiness as your guide, you won't be able to tell the real thing from the fakes. Convincingly argued and clearly written, The God Question explains how to set off on your quest and how to mark the mileposts along the way."
--David Neff, editor in chief and vice-president, Christianity Today Media Group

"An astonishing achievement! What happens when a world-class philosopher like J.P. Moreland turns his mind and vast life experience to the most profound questions we all face? We get a spiritual earthquake capable of moving people at the deepest levels. This book satisfies both the mind and the heart in ways that self-help or New Age books never could. Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Wayne Dyer, Eckhart Tolle, and the rest of the popular gurus of the media need to read this book to see where the deepest satisfaction, happiness, and joy can really be found."
--Craig J. Hazen, PhD, professor of comparative religion, Biola University, author of Five Sacred Crossings

"Do you know thoughtful people who are struggling with issues of faith? Whether they are atheists, or stumbling believers, or simply Christians doing some honest wrestling, The God Question may be the book to put into their hands. Through the deepest philosophical waters to the most personal spiritual questions, J.P. Moreland proves to be a wonderfully readable guide, drawing readers toward a heartfelt embrace of the Christian faith. Highly recommended."
--Duane Litfin, president, Wheaton College
