Ideals Books is the publisher of this charming 32 page hardcover book. Perfect for a 4-8 year old due to the rhyming language that helps them develop verbal language skills and learn to read. Not only is this book great for Family Story Time during the holidays, it is a wonderful addition for the libraries for Children's Ministers and Sunday school teachers! Musically inclined? Christmas carolers could set it to a tune! I found myself humming The First Noel as I read.
Very reminiscent of "Twas The Night before Christmas" in style, this has a poetic feel that flows smoothly with a rhythm that is very pleasing. The story is told in a simple style suitable for young children and gives them an overall summary of the events surrounding the birth of Jesus. The Biblical story of the First Christmas, as written in Luke 2:1, 4-16, 20 and Matthew 2:1-2, 9b-11 is also included at the end of the book. I loved this added touch! The gorgeous illustrations add a beauty to the book that will delight all. Even those too young to read for themselves will want to look at these. This is sure to be a treasured book in your family and one you will want to enjoy for years to come.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from FlyBy Promotions Blogger Networkin exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

This hardcover book is written in the poetic flow of the older story, 'Twas the Night before Christmas'. I love the author's selection of words, not to mention the illustrator's beautiful artwork. The story of Christ's birth is brought to life and retold in a singsong way. You will find yourself enjoying reading it and your children will be busy scanning the pages, soaking up every detail of the pictures.
While I do not believe it is entirely Biblically accurate, as he ends with the wise men at the stable, I do think that it still encompasses the spirit of the Christmas story and therefore easily recommend it. I also love poetry, so this one was an enjoyable read and I'll be looking forward to sharing it with my children this Christmas.
I was given a copy of this book to review, free of charge, from FlyBy Promotions and the author. All views expressed in this review are my own.

The First Christmas Night is a beautiful book to share with your children this Christmas. Keith Christopher retells the story of Jesus birth in a poem, similar to "The Night Before Christmas". His poem flows naturally, covering Mary and Joseph's arrival in Bethlehem, the shepherds, the angels, and the wise men. It's lyrical and soothing, a perfect book to read together at bedtime.
I have to be honest, though. What really makes the book special is the art. Christine Kornacki's illustrations first impressed me in The Sparkle Box, but they shine even more in The First Christmas Night. They are rich, vibrant, and simply beautiful!
I am sure that some purists will point out that the wise men probably didn't arrive on the very night that Jesus was born. I am sure that others might point out inaccuracies in the appearance of the stable or Mary's headcovering. Those are very minor issues to me. I think the book is beautiful and we are blessed to add it to our family's Christmas collection. I'd much rather read this than read "The Night Before Christmas" to my kids.
The book itself is a large hardcover, that is a good size to hold and be seen by several kids while reading aloud. Most pages have just one stanza of text on a large two-page spread illustration. A few pages have two stanzas. This allows for a slow, gentle pacing of the story which is very relaxing. It's perfect for bedtime!
I received a free copy of this book for review purposes, but I was not required to write a positive review.

We all know the famous story of the Night Before Christmas, and that's why I am thrilled to let you know about another book, I believe will soon be a Christmas Classic as well. The First Christmas Night is a beautifully detailed illustrated children's book read along the same lines as The Night Before Christmas sharing that beloved Christmas story about the night of our Savior's birth.
"Twas the very first Christmas,
when all through the town
not a creature was stirring -
there was not a sound.
The moon, shining bright
in the heavens so high,
gave the luster of midday
to the Bethlehem sky."
Written by Keith Christopher and illustrated by Christine Kornacki, I know this will be one book you want to make sure has a treasured place in your home during the Christmas season. Taking the story from Luke's gospel this version is geared for your child to welcome the true reason for the Christmas season. It's simple and straight to the point but what my favorite part of the book is the illustrations. I just know your child will love looking at the pictures and can imagine that during each time this book is read the memories that will be made will last forever. Over time, soon your child will be able to quote the Biblical side of that wonderous night so many years ago. The story of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and the night of the glorious birth of Jesus Christ.
This book is written for children ages 4-8 and the rhyming language can help them develop verbal language skills and learn to read. There are 32 pages that I know your child will love looking at again and again. I received a copy of The First Christmas Night by Keith Christopher compliments of Ideal Books and FlyBy Promotions for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed in this review are my own. I give this one a 5 out of 5 heavenly stars!!!
