Jacob's life takes one more unexpected turn when he becomes trapped in the pitch-black recesses of the plant. Suffering the ravages of alcohol withdrawal combined with the chilling effects of sensory deprivation, he embarks on an emotional and spiritual journey that will take him to the brink of insanity and back. Before his captivity comes to an end, Jacob-like his namesake from the Old Testament-will find himself wrestling with God.

Tell us a little about yourself. I have been a born-again Christian since age 15 (31 yrs.) I was raised as a Roman Catholic. I now attend an Assembly of God church where I serve as a deacon and an adult Bible teacher. I attended a 2-year Bible college afer high school. I later completed am an electrician's apprenticeship and have worked as an electrician for the past 20 years. I have been married to Barbara, my high school sweetheart, for 25 years. We have 3 children, Hannah (18), Matthew (14) and Rachel (11)
What was your motivation behind this project? Early in the process of writing this novel I came up with a mission statement for the story I was telling; I wanted to give people a new perspective on alcoholics and their disease. I wanted people to see addicted people as human beings - with the breath of God in them and with the hope of His grace and restoration no matter what they had done with their lives.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope people will gain a better understanding of God's Love, patience, and faithfulness to all people. I hope they will realize that God cares deeply for each of us and that He is able to reach us no matter circumstances we find ourselves in. (Isaiah 59:1)
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? As I researched this novel I spoke with recovering alcoholics. I read books on addiction, and I even attended a few A.A. meetings. These experiences, coupled with my own personal family history of addiction affected a change in my heart toward addicts and their personal struggles. There was some pain involved in this process. But, as is usually the case, pain can bring growth and understanding.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? This particular story was inspired by my life experiences. The main character, Jacob, is a compilation of at least 5 people whom I have known, including myself, my father and a few friends and work associates - all of whom have had addiction problems. My favorite authors are C.S. Lewis, Donald Miller, and Daniel Woodrell.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: This story is not a typical "Christian" fiction story. It shows people being people. There is alcohol abuse, a drug overdose, a two fatal car accidents, a broken marriage, an adulterous affair, embezzlement and other real-life situations. But, most importantly, there is God's grace and healing power in all of these situations.
