Through The Family of Jesus, readers will develop an emotional connection to the family members of Jesus, learning about their lives and falling in love with Scripture along the way. Bible studies and devotionals abound, and in churches everywhere people gather to seek a deeper understanding of God’s word and its application to their lives. But too often these studies engage only the analytic approach to Bible learning.
In The Family of Jesus, #1 New York Times bestselling novelist Karen Kingsbury will make you laugh, cry, and ultimately care more deeply about the Bible by helping you grasp the truths in Scripture not just with your mind, but with your heart. The characters in these short stories were among those closest to Jesus—Mary, Joseph, Jesus’ brother James, John the Baptist, Zechariah, and Elizabeth. Each has a compelling tale to tell. Kingsbury intersperses fictional, emotionally gripping details anchored in Scripture with historical and theological insights and questions that will guide soul-searching and reflection.
The Family of Jesus not only provides a deeper understanding of the relatives of our Savior, but also helps readers acquire tools that will draw them closer to Christ, to the Scriptures, and to each other.
“Inspirational fiction superstar Kingsbury considersthe cost of fame [in] a tale that is sure to cause tears”
"Bestselling author Kingsbury (The Chance, 2013) drives straight to the heart of her characters as always in this
excellent tale of desire and faith, digging beneath the surface of her plot to fuel an emotionally driven story set within the exciting world of reality TV."
"Kingsbury knows how to get down to business; readers start worrying from the opening sentence about 15-year-old Ellie Tucker and her family: 'Her mom didn't come home for dinner, the third time that week.' . . . The action clips along, and readers root for the main characters. . . . the author pours a fervent message about love and reconciliation into a novel that makes the lesson of hope go down much more easily than it would via sermon."
"In The Chance, Kingsbury (The Bridge, 2012) delivers another excellent novel filled with heart, adventure, and second chances. . . . Kingsbury is one of the most dependable names in inspirational fiction, and The Chance may be her best yet. She infuses such real emotion into her characters, readers will find themselves in tears multiple times throughout the novel. A beautiful balance of human fragility and the power of God’s grace makes this is a must-read."
Reminiscent of Nicholas Spark's The Notebook and Richard Paul Evan's The Walk, Kingsbury's (Coming Home) latest novel offers her characters forgiveness and love without an expiration date. Her many fans, and readers who like to escape their daily cares with a gentle Christian romance with elements of women's fiction, will enjoy the reappearances of Molly and Ryan, familiar characters from The Bridge, as well as a likable cast of fresh protagonists."
"Another weeper from Christian-fiction diva Kingsbury, this time featuring a prayerful NBA star and his long-lost first love."
"Popular inspirational novelist Kingsbury goes mainstream in her newest, which mixes a love story with a seasonal one that borrows from the Christmas favorite It's A Wonderful Life. . . . Kingsbury fans may acquire a new holiday favorite read in this sugary tale of second chances."
“‘Life Changing Fiction’ is a profound definition of Karen Kingsbury’s books. God has placed the words of this book in her heart with her readers in mind. Through the powerful words and Karen’s testimony, don’t be surprised if you open your heart a little wider to let God write the story of your life.”
Susan Barrett4 Stars Out Of 5Interesting ConceptApril 8, 2016Susan BarrettQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0The Family of Jesus by Karen Kingsbury is a unique book. I have not read much from Karen Kingsbury (gasp! I know! My mom and several of my friends have read her works, but for some reason, they usually don't hold my interest), but what I have read from her is contemporary works, so to read a biblical fiction/Bible study was interesting. Ms. Kingsbury wove in fictional details about Biblical characters lives with the intent of making Bible study and characters more interesting and relatable to us. This was tastefully and creatively done, and I think it is a neat idea. This would be a great conversation starter in a book club, or a neat study for a Sunday school group. There are correlating study guides and DVDs that can be purchased in addition to the book also.
Thank you so much to Net Galley and Howard Books publishers for providing me with an electronic copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own and were not required to be positive, nor were they affected by anything other than the book itself. I was not compensated beyond receiving the book itself.

It gave a different possible perspective to the family members of Jesus. It was easy to read and though it was from the perspective of the author it made the people come alive for me.

Chas Ray5 Stars Out Of 5A beautiful witnessAugust 29, 2015Chas RayQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I don't know what I was expecting when I purchased this book but I can definitely tell you what I got. I got a heartwarming and sometimes wrenching story that took the Bible off the black and white pages and brought it to life. I cried in every story. My heart broke along with Mary as she's watching Jesus being crucified on the cross. I smiled as Joseph brought Mary orchids. I felt John the Baptist's doubts as he's in prison wondering "what is God's plan?". I can go on and on. You can tell Karen put a lot of thought and prayer into this book and was exceptionally careful not to taint the facts but to enhance the story and characters with fictional details. I will definitely be sharing this book with my friends! It is also a great way to share the life of Jesus and witness to someone.
