The truth within this poignant Puritan message from this Christian brother has changed my way of thinking and living. REPENTANCE, like Thomas says in this book, is the other wing that - along with the wing of FAITH - flies a Christian to heaven. When, in pride, I avoid repentance, I look and feel like a fallen bird flapping with one wing as I turn in circles on the ground. However, I was re-born to fly.

From this book, I discovered my existing understanding of repentance to be shallow and nominally effectual. Though I saw repentance as "turning" from sin, which it is, Watson opens the scriptures to reveal much more. Through this book, I understand more fully the biblical foundational structure of true repentance. It begins with "seeing" sin for what it is and how it offends God. That seeing produces godly "sorrow", and that sorrow then brings about "confession". "Shame" for the offence against God will follow, which will result in "hatred" for it. I have found that when I reach this point in the repentance process, "the turning" has already happened, and I am experiencing the grace of God - being revived by His eternal hope, the substance of which is FAITH - that other wing. And, once again, I am flying!

True to his Puritan heritage, Thomas Watson has formulated every sentence of this book from an inspired mind of real-life experiential understanding.
