The Ezekiel Option contained the War of Gog and Magog which has ended with Israel's enemies in ashes. But a new evil grows as archaeologists race to solve the clues in The Copper Scroll, Joel C. Rosenberg's new novel, to find the Ark of the Covenant.
With the world in shambles, Erin McCoy and Jon Bennett delay their wedding no longer. Even as they wed, friends rush from the church because a homicide bomber has attacked a hotel only blocks from the White House, killing one of the world's pre-eminent archaeologists. They halt their honeymoon when they find that their dear friend, Dr. Eli Mordechai, is attacked and mortally wounded. His dying words send them on a search for the lost Temple treasures, including the Ark of the Covenant, with his friend Dr. Yossi Barak and Barak's granddaughter, Natasha.
Dr. Barak and Natasha, both archaeologists, tell them of a copper scroll found with the Dead Sea Scrolls. This copper scroll describes a great treasure and gives clues for its whereabouts, but others have found out also. Now with the destruction of the Dome of the Rock, little stands in the way of the rebuilding of the Temple. Fearing the power of the Ark of the Covenant as a weapon of mass destruction, the new leader or Iraq, Al-Hassani, has hired hit men to prevent Israel's finding it and rebuilding the temple. Dr. Mordechai and two other archaeologists involved in the project have already been murdered.
Al-Hassani works below the world's surveillance to unite the shattered Muslim world behind himself and to solidify power. He enlists the prospective Secretary General of the United Nations to prevent Israel rebuilding the Temple in exchange for Muslim support for the man's appointment and getting the oil flowing faster from the destroyed countries.
When someone tries to kill them, Jon, Erin, and Natasha have no choice but to try to stop the murderers and find the treasures. Being hunted by the Israeli government, the American government, and the hit men, they fear that someone has betrayed Israeli Prime Minister Doron's secrets about the Copper Scroll for their attackers close in on them repeatedly as they near the end of the quest.
Rosenberg has written another page-turner based on end-times prophecy. The intricacies of his plot resemble Tom Clancy's but with greater clarity and fewer characters. Intriguing twists and turns keep the reader on the edge of his seat as he follows the searing action. Those who enjoy political thrillers or end-time thrillers will want to explore The Copper Scroll.
