Author Bio

Clive Staples Lewis was born in 1898. Known as "Jack" by his friends, Lewis and his good friend J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, were part of a writer's club, The Inklings, who would meet at the local pub to discuss story ideas. Lewis's fascination with fairytales, myths, and ancient legends coupled with inspiration drawn from his childhood led him to write The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, one of the best-loved books of all time. Six further books in the immensely popular Chronicles of Narnia followed, and the final title, The Last Battle, received the Carnegie Award, one of the highest marks of excellence in children's literature.

Another way to digest some great material

Although not intended to be an audio theater production, these CDs provide a great method to digest Lewis' material while driving or doing other things. They are well read and easy to listen to while thinking through what is heard. It is very easy to rewind select material for a repeat reading. I travel a lot and wish more of Lewis' works were in this format.

The only personal drawback to this item is that I already have audio versions of two of the works and enjoy them. This means I can lend out my duplicates with less fear of them not being returned.

I don't have time to sit down and read...so all I have to do is listen as I go about my day.

I bought this for my husband as a gift. He was surprised (not expecting it!) but delighted! This was something he would not have bought himself. He thought the gift box was a great presentation and started listening to the CD's on his first day back to work after Christmas.

As you would expect from CS Lewis the narative is very captivating, and the tapes amazingly well read. I have several taped Bibles and some of them are hard to listen to because the reading is poor. Not so with these tapes. Excellent value.
