Amy1 Stars Out Of 5March 5, 2010AmyI love the Narnia Chronicles. That said, this cassette series was a disappointment. It cuts out a lot of key scenes (in order to get each book on a single audiocasette, I suppose)--and my kids definitely noticed--which leaves the flow of the stories awkward, even stilted. Even for the price, they're not worth it--put the money towards the Focus on the Family radio drama version (Excellent!)--after one listen, we probably won't play these again... especially after hearing the Focus on the Family version (lively, doesn't cut corners in the plot, lots and lots of word-for-word dialogue with super casting and magnificent sound effects). The only points this production gets from me is for selecting excellent material (Chronicles of Narnia), but the execution is not impressive.
Chris Todd4 Stars Out Of 5July 21, 2009Chris ToddThe famous British actors reading the tales are superb. While all of the novels are represented they are abridged. If you know the stories well, you will be irritated. But they might be a good introduction for kids, or something they could listen to in the car, before they can read the books.
Ruth Culmer3 Stars Out Of 5July 20, 2009Ruth CulmerThe Narnia adventures are wonderful. For the price, these cassettes are good. I would, however, encourage reader-listeners to spend the money and get either the unabridged CDs or, if you prefer an abridgement, buy the Focus on the Family dramatization of the Chronicles. It is well worth the price. Just a note, some of these Narnia books, tapes and CDs are for my grandchildren--and I have a set of my own too! C.S. Lewis outlines the Christian walk in beatuiful allegorical style in the Chronicles or Narnia. Yet, in a way that captures young and old hearts alike!
Kimberly Nobles4 Stars Out Of 5July 17, 2009Kimberly NoblesVery nicely done abridged reading. It has all the parts that you wouldn't want to miss. The only thing to make it better would be to have the entire books read.
