Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade, Yucca, and Good Books imprints, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in fictionnovels, novellas, political and medical thrillers, comedy, satire, historical fiction, romance, erotic and love stories, mystery, classic literature, folklore and mythology, literary classics including Shakespeare, Dumas, Wilde, Cather, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
Linda Byler grew up Amish and is an active member of the Amish church today. Growing up, Linda loved to read and write. In fact, she still does. She is the author of Running Around (and Such), the first novel in the “Lizzie Searches for Love” series.
She is well-known within the Amish community as a columnist for a weekly Amish newspaper. Linda and her husband, their children, and grandchildren live in central Pennsylvania.
MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Amish Style RomanceNovember 4, 2013MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 2The premise of this story is very good, but was a bit rushed to make it happen at Christmas.
A poor young widow with six little children, the youngest born after her husband died tragically. A 35 year old Amish bachelor, who just bought a big mansion in town. He is dating a Amish Teacher, and then??
The whole idea of this story is heartwarming, and loved the friendship that Ruth had with Mamie...who certainly was not the stereotype Amish. She will make you laugh, but is really a good friend, just a bit lazy.
This is one quick read, and can be read in an afternoon. Get ready for Christmas with a little love and romance....Amish style.
I received this book through Net Galley, and was not required to give a positive review.
Big MomIngleside, ILAge: Over 65Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Nice Christmas storyNovember 1, 2013Big MomIngleside, ILAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3This is the first Amish story I have read over the past several years where Linda Byler has differed from other Amish fiction writers. I have never read where the Amish celebrate Christmas with giving English toys to their children. I have to question the idea of the Old Order Amish allowing the gifts described in this story. Other than this part of story it was enjoyable.
Rhonda Nash-hallMadison Heights VAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5lovely Christmas storyOctober 9, 2013Rhonda Nash-hallMadison Heights VAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Ruth is a widower with young children who only wants to provide for them and have a simple but happy Amish Christmas. How will she manage? She is doing all she can to work things out when mysterious boxes begin to appear. The boxes contain exactly what the family needs at the time. Who is sending the boxes?
The Amish encourage remarriage among widows and widowers but Ruth feels she can never find a love like she had with her dear husband. Will she find love among the snow, the boxes, the fun, the spirit of Christmas or will she let it slip through her grasp?
I always desire to have a simple Christmas and have sought to teach my own children the true meaning of the season...Jesus and his birth, NOT GIFTS, GIFTS, and more GIFTS. I think the Amish certainly have the right idea when it comes to the holidays. The cover of this book is enchanting and just the cover alone made me want to read it. I am a snow lover and it reminds me of times in the past with my own grandparents.
Thank you to Linda Byler and netgalley for the chance to read this delightful book and review it with all honesty.
