We give these bibles out to all infants & children who are baptized in our church. While many will give children a "baby bible," we want to make sure that they start moving on to something more in-depth as soon as they are ready. The key points of the scripture stories are made, the illustrations are lovely, and the maps and cultural information on the side give it more depth. It is a more sophisticated children's bible for those who are not quite ready for the full bible. Frankly, some of our parents are not terribly well versed in scripture and this is interesting enough for an adult to read. Then they learn the stories too. It's a win-win.
What I love about this bible is the illustrations! They are works of art, as opposed to cartoon drawings (which I hate!). There is also a lot of additional information in the sidebars that help kids understand the culture and lifestyle of the time period. I love sharing this bible with our kids.
Our church has given this Bible to our 2nd graders for years. The children love the storybook format. The parents love that their children are reading God's stories. Another great feature are the factoids printed in the margins (kind of like the pop-up video format in print). It's a great resource for me as a Children's Ministry Director also.
This book was intended for my girls, ages 2 and 7. The illustrations were too graphic, there was also nudity. The angels were depicted as female, which clearly is not biblical. I would definitely not recommend this book. Phil 4:8
