For twenty years, Wright taught New Testament studies at Cambridge, McGill and Oxford Universities. He has also been a visiting professor at Harvard Divinity School, Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Gregorian University in Rome and many other institutions around the world.
Since 2003, Wright has served as Bishop of Durham. Prior to this appointment, Wright was Canon Theologian of Westminster Abbey and dean of Lichfield Cathedral.
Wright's full-scale works The New Testament and the People of God, Jesus and the Victory of God and The Resurrection of the Son of God are part of a projected six-volume series entitled Christian Origins and the Question of God. Among his many other published works are The Original Jesus, What Saint Paul Really Said and The Climax of the Covenant. He is coauthor withMarcus Borg of TheMeaning of Jesus: Two Visions and the volume on Colossians and Philemon in The Tyndale New Testament Commentary series.
Wright has also written numerous commentaries and popular books that articulate theology in an accessible way. WithWJK, Wright has done the New Testament for Everyone commentaries, which include both his insights and his own translation of the text. With HarperOne, Wright has published The LastWord, Simply Christian and Surprised by Hope. With InterVarsity Press,Wright published The Challenge of Jesus and Evil and the Justice of God.
In addition to his many books, Bishop Wright reaches a broad audience through his frequent media appearances. A sought-after commentator, Wright has written for newspapers in England, including the Times, the Independent and the Guardian. He has been interviewed numerous times by radio and television broadcasters on both sides of the Atlantic, including ABC, NBC, CNN, PBS, NPR and even The Colbert Report.
