In the town of Mount Central, things are not what they seem- even within the supposedly safe confines of its church. Young and optimistic Charles Aurick gladly accepts his assignment as pastor of Mount Central Bible Church, replacing the former minister, Reverend Maurice Santanas. But little does Charles realize the debt of false teachings Reverend Santanas indoctrinated the members of the church with or the level of abuse that he administered. Membership at Bible Church has dwindled, due to Reverend Santanas, pushing members away with his emotional, physical and spiritual abuse. One of the battered members is Charles' ex-girlfriend from college, Amy Cathmore. Strange, that they should be reunited in Mount Central. Strange too, that Reverend Santanas, nephew Dan Santanas is the same man Charles roomed with in seminary. In Catelin Hoover's The Challenge, Charles and Amy fight for the freedom of a church overrun with Christians waning in the faith and even opposing doctrine to follow the evil and conniving cult of Santanas. Soon the fight for their church becomes a fight for their faith as they struggle to sage their relationship, their fellow believers, Pastor Charles' life, and their church in this suspenseful tale of good versus evil in small town America.
