This is a great new book from Lee Strobel. Its compact size and glossy, magazine-like pages make it an ideal gift for graduations, birthdays, Christmas, etc. -- but don't let its size fool you. It covers 60 of the most common questions people have about the Christian faith, including challenges that are raised in the areas of science & faith, history, Biblical issues, theology, and personal experience of God. And its answers, though concise, are surprisingly thorough and satisfying.

Maybe that's because of Mr. Strobel's background as a skeptic and a journalist (which he refers to several times in the book), but he knows how to cut to the chase and give information that is both clear and confidence-inspiring. Whether you get this for yourself or to give to others, I don't think you'll disappointed with this book of important questions and answers.

Also, here is the TABLE OF CONTENTS so you can see the questions addressed in this book:

    I. Prelude: Seeking Spiritual Answers

    1. I have so many questions--and a few doubts--about the Christian faith. What should I do with them?

    2. Can you offer any practical ideas on how to approach this journey of finding answers?

    3. How can I "keep an open mind" when I already have some strong opinions?

II. Answers About God, the Creator

    4. Are Christianity and science at odds?

    5. Can we prove God exists?

    6. How does the Big Bang theory help prove that there's a God?

    7. How does the beginning of the universe point specifically to the God of the Bible?

    8. What is the "fine-tuning" of the universe-- and what can it tell us?

    9. What are "molecular machines"--and how do they relate to discussions about God?

    10. Why is DNA referred to as "the language of God"--what does that mean?

    11. Did evolution put God out of a job?

    12. Can you summarize what science tells us about God?

    III. Answers About the Bible

    13. If the Bible was written by ordinary people, how can I know it really is the Word of God?

    14. Stories about Jesus were passed along verbally before being written down. How can we be sure the gospels are reliable?

    15. How soon after Jesus' death were the gospels written?

    16. I've heard people say the New Testament borrowed themes of dying and rising gods from earlier mythical religions. Is there any truth to this?

    17. Who decided which books made it into the New Testament and which ones didn't? How do we know they got it right?

    18. What are the gnostic gospels--and why were they excluded from the Bible?

    19. I keep hearing people mention the Gospel of Thomas. Is it worth studying?

    20. Were there really ancient prophecies predicting details about the life and ministry of Jesus?

    21. Couldn't someone other than Jesus, past or future, fulfill the prophecies and fit the "fingerprint" of the Messiah?

    22. Is there any historical evidence from outside the Bible to show it is true?

    23. What does archaeology tell us about the validity of the Old Testament?

    24. Does archaeology confirm the New Testament?

    25. Doesn't the Bible contradict what we've learned from science?

    26. How can we be sure the Bible we have today is the same Bible they had back when it was written?

    27. With all the differences between the New Testament manuscripts, how can we trust the Bible?

    28. The Bible has been translated and retranslated so many times--and there are so many different versions--who knows what it's really supposed to say?

    IV. Answers About Jesus

    29. Was the idea of Jesus' virgin birth copied from pagan sources?

    30. Is there any evidence outside the Bible for the slaughter of children described in Matthew's gospel?

    31. Was Jesus really convinced he was the Son of God?

    32. Jesus called himself the "Son of Man." Doesn't this mean he was merely human?

    33. Could Jesus have been crazy when he claimed to be the Son of God?

    34. Did Jesus' life demonstrate that he was a divine person?

    35. Jesus did many things, but what was his real mission?

    36. The New Testament says Jesus sweat drops of blood when he was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. Is that just a figure of speech?

    37. I've heard that other faiths deny it was really Jesus who was up on the cross. How do you respond?

    38. A central claim of Christianity is that Jesus rose from the dead. Is there any solid evidence to support this?

    39. One gospel says Mary Magdalene and another Mary discovered Jesus' empty tomb; another gospel says only Mary did. What are we to make of discrepancies like this?

    40. Some people claim Jesus' tomb was empty because someone stole his body. How do we know that's not what happened?

    41. Jesus appeared to his followers after his crucifixion--but how do we know they weren't just hallucinating?

    42. Weren't the reports of Jesus' death and resurrection written generations later--possibly distorting the story?

    43. What difference does it make today that a man rose from the dead two thousand years ago?

    44. How can belief in the resurrection of Christ impact someone personally?

    45. Isn't it narrow-minded to claim that Jesus offers the only pathway to God?

    V. Answers to Other Challenges to Christianity

    46. There are so many other religions out there. How can we be sure that Christianity is the right one?

    47. Isn't it elitist to say that people must be followers of Jesus in order to get into heaven?

    48. Why does God allow tragedy and suffering?

    49. Can God really bring good out of evil?

    50. How does our sense of morality point to God's existence?

    51. How could a loving God send people to hell?

    52. What about people who have never heard about Jesus or the gospel--how will God deal with them?

    53. I found out the word Trinity isn't in the Bible. Why does the church teach it?

    54. Why do I still struggle with doubts about my faith--and what can I do about it?

VI. Postlude: Turning Answers into Action

    55. Some people believe Jesus is the Son of God who died and rose again, but say, "So what?" How do you respond to it?

    56. You've said you came to realize you didn't have enough faith to maintain your atheism. Can you explain what you mean?

    57. Christians say that God's salvation and eternal life are the most important things we can ever have. How can I make sure they're mine?

    58. Why are some Christians so adamant about telling everyone else about their faith? Shouldn't we just let people come to their own conclusions?

    59. It's hard to believe that God can just snap his fingers and suddenly I'm forgiven and my sins are all wiped away. Isn't there more to it than that?

    60. Now that we've explored a lot of questions and answers, what should I do with the information?
