Publisher's Description

Boone Drake has it made. He’s a young cop rising rapidly through the ranks of the Chicago Police Department. He has a beautiful wife and a young son, a nice starter house, a great partner, and a career plan that should land him in the Organized Crime Division within five years. Everything is going right. Until everything goes horribly, terribly wrong. His personal life destroyed and his career and future in jeopardy, Boone buries himself in guilt and bitterness as his life spirals out of control. But when he comes face-to-face with the most vicious gang leader Chicago has seen in decades, he begins to realize that God is a God of second chances and can change the hardest heart . . . and forgive the worst of crimes. A thought-provoking police thriller from New York Times best-selling author Jerry B. Jenkins.

Boone Drake, Chicago's most honest police officer, has everything he could want in Jerry B. Jenkins' new novel, The Brotherhood. Boone, a rising cop, suddenly loses the most important people in his life in an accident. Left with the challenge of rebuilding his life, Boone pushes people away, choosing isolation and control.

The Brotherhood trails Boone's attempt to restructure his life. Focusing on Boone's personal life rather than his professional experience as an officer, the story quickens when Boone is chosen to work with the most dangerous gang leader in Chicago.

His longtime partner, Jack Keller, becomes a mediator, maintaining contact with the outside world and Boone, while his pastor, Francisco Sosa, refuses to give up on him. Boone realizes his faith has been shallow and, as he works to make it real, he must face various obstacles that threaten his career and his life while attempting to take down Chicago’s most notorious criminals.

By-the-book-cop Boone starts to heal when he trusts God, despite his many unanswered questions. Character relationships are strong, reflecting biblical values of the love of Christ and Christian community throughout the book. However, the book's real strength lies in Boone’s battle of loss and coping with his subsequent emotions. A genuine representation of the healing process is portrayed in the story through a few Scripture references declaring God’s promises to His people. One driving theme is Isaiah 40:31, "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint," (NIV) teaching us many lessons and allowing us to examine our personal faith.

This book is well written and easy to read. But don't expect an exclusive action story, for that plays a minor role. This would best suit audiences ages ten and older. It could be beneficial for anyone who has overcome or is currently experiencing hardships. – Michelle Archer, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
