Publisher's Weekly

Readers who relish being trapped in a character's mind, in particular the mind of an insane serial killer, should enjoy this overlong thriller by bestseller Dekker (Boneman's Daughters). Those not so keen on such musings, even within the mind of a good guy like FBI special agent Brad Raines, who spends pages contemplating the nature of love and grief, will be less enthralled. The Denver killer, Quinton Gauld, driven by some mumbo jumbo about beautiful women being the brides of Christ and his giving them to God, likes to super-glue his victims to the wall, then drain their blood into buckets. The most interesting characters are the institutionalized crazy people whose aid Raines enlists, a diverse and funny group. Few surprises and a stock serial killer, not to mention too much internal dialogue, add up to a routine read. 5-city author tour. (Apr.) Copyright 2010 Reed Business Information.

The continuous affirmation that God loves all of His children in the midst of a suspense thriller was an uplifting contrast to the serial killer's perversion of that love. It is true the main characters could have been written as more "Christian". However, I believe Mr. Dekker to have a seed planting style. He seeds the love of God through a book that will be read by non-Christians because it is not "preachy". I was also pleased that Mr. Dekker chose to write of those with mental challenges as processing the world differently and choosing those characters to be integral to identifying the killer.

The crime scenes are described in a "just the facts" way. Although I would not recommend this book for the young or tender at heart, those in the service fields (ED nursing, police, ems) would fine the descriptions tame compared to the reality that they deal with every day. I am grateful to God for those He has raised up with warrior hearts. To all of those, who by the strength of God, have chosen professions which fight evil head on, thank you and may God restore and bless you every day.

This book had a LOT of information about mental illnesses but not enough of a plot to stop me from skipping pages so I can get to the end. i was underwhelmed.

I read almost half of this book and had to throw it in the trash. The graphic details of murders committed by an insane individual were over the top. Although CBD was offering this book, I saw no relation to Christian faith, God's Word or anything that would have redeemed this dark, unprofitable storyline. There was no foul language, but that did not save this book. As believers, we should be careful about what we take into our minds--I saw absolutely no value in this book--I neither learned anything of value nor was I entertained in a fashion that was God-honoring or noble.

The Bride Collector was an excellent book to read. After the first 100 pages, it got really hard to put the book down. Ted Dekker did an amazing job putting the book together, it was a good christian thriller. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes thrillers. It also had a little bit of romance along the way which I admired.
