This once-upon-a-time tale tells about a young knight who is kind, brave, generous, and honest. It's his honesty that comes under trial. Even in the face of almost certain defeat, with the moral support of his father, the knight wins through and gains the prize. The Brave Young Knight is a most intriguing morality saga. One Bible verse appears before the story actually begins. Other than that, the author leaves the figuring out of the moral to the reader and his/her mentors. That won’t be hard because this attractive, Christian-based legend sets the audience to thinking deep thoughts. Pre-readers who are used to listening to stories will enjoy hearing this book. Older children will be able to read it for themselves.

Karen Kingsbury has written books for many age groups. She has a true sense of legend and knows how to apply it to stories which teach. With a background in fine arts, Gabrielle Grimard brings this same sense of legend to her painting. They are full of affective color and winsome with human expression. The Brave Young Knight is a happy choice for school, family, and church use. – Donna Eggett, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

I had read this book to my child and decided it was a book NEEDED for our bookshelf. I purchased it and will save for either a birthday or Christmas gift. It is a great book geared just for boys and shows how honesty is the best policy. I also really like the author's books. I have read many of the adult fiction books she writes.

It shipped in the timing it said it would too!

In a village on the west side of the kingdom lives a young knight who is widely known as being brave and kind, spending his days helping those in need. When the king announces a series of contests and competitions in which the winner will be chosen as prince of the land, the knight begins to question whether he could ever win such a contest, whether he is truly the strongest or smartest or fastest. As the contests begin, the young knight will be tested in ways he couldn't have imagined, as the competing knights encourage each other to bend the rules to help them gain an advantage. As the contests draw to a close, the king announces his decision before a crowd who wonders, just who will be crowned prince?

Again featuring the gorgeous illustrations by Gabrielle Grimard, Karen Kingsbury weaves another wonderful tale that will delight young readers in "Brave Young Knight". My children crowded around the book as I read it to them, pointing out the vivid scenes and the humorous details, like the knight lifting armfuls of dogs to increase his strength. Although the ending may not be a complete surprise as they fully expected the good knight to win, my children greatly enjoyed following the story from beginning to end, declaring at the conclusion "I absolutely loved that book!". Both this book and another of Karen's stories, "The Princess and the Three Knights", are some of the most beautiful children's books I have ever seen, and they contain stories that not only entertain the children but impart valuable lessons as well. In this tale, children will learn the importance of following God and his ways, even when it seems like there may be an easier but less honest way to do something. They will learn that there are consequences for choosing to sin, and that God rewards those who faithfully follow his word.

I highly recommend this children's book and award it a full 5 out of 5 stars. Plan on introducing your children to this book!

Both my son and daughter enjoyed this book. It reinforces the idea that we shouldn't spend time comparing our abilities with other people, but that we should focus on doing the right thing even when it is easier not to.

    My Review

In this fairy tale of The Brave Young Knight, a young Knight who lived in a village on the west side of the kingdom always went around helping those who needed help. He, along with other knights was in a competition to be the new Prince. The competition had several events and the one that did their best would be the new king. Some of the knights did things that made them look better, but didn’t exactly go by the rules, but the young knight from the west did as he was told, and did his best. Who do you think was crowned the Prince?

I like that Karen Kingsbury takes an old story and telling it to children using her usual Christian theme throughout. I also appreciate the father son relationship in the story because of the fathers influence in their child’s life.
I love the vibrant colorful illustrations in this book, reinforcing the story in pictures. The pictures will make the young reader feel like they are in a castle where they can pretend they can meet the Prince and all of the young knights. These illustrations will make the child’s imagination run wild!

I recommend this book for young children as well as public, school and church libraries.

I received this book free from Zondervan to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55
