The Blue Enchantress by M. L. Tyndall weaves themes of love and forgiveness through the story of Nathaniel Mason and Hope Westcott. In the beginning scene, Hope, the daughter of an admiral, finds herself on an auction block through of a series of circumstances that include an illicit affair (nothing is described in detail). Nathaniel, who knows Hope and has been attracted to her for some time, watches from the crowd and struggles with his conscience over whether to step in and save her or not. The results of his decision launch a story of deceit, guilt, trust, forgiveness, and renewed hope.

Tyndall does an admirable job with character development and plot pacing in this book. Each character is a well-rounded, believable person with whom readers can immediately identify. The action of the plot launches in the first chapter, doesn’t let up until the last page, and includes twists that will keep readers interested. Readers will reach the end and wait in anticipation for the next installment in the series.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I began it expecting another predictable romance but found an intriguing, well-written tale that kept me guessing. Tyndall’s graphic descriptive comparison of a storm at sea as a living monster was especially memorable. The theme developed through Nathaniel’s resistance against the call of God is compelling, but even more arresting is Hope’s desire to reform her life and win her struggle against her sinful nature. The manner in which this conflict is resolved reminds me of 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” This book is a good choice for anyone who loves historical romances. – Ruth Anne Burrell, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
