I'm stuck in a legal quandary. I have no idea where to turn. Do I need to see a lawyer?
The Believer's Guide to Legal Issues isn't written for legal scholars or ivory tower intellectuals, but for average Christians currently interacting in some way with the legal system (whether by choice or unavoidable circumstance).
It promotes a system of Christian legal ethics that restores relationships, values integrity, and promotes peace. It confronts an out-of-control secular legal system that destroys relationships, idolizes greed, and celebrates revenge. This book is a comforting companion and helpful counselor for the Christian who is bewildered, overwhelmed, and increasingly uneasy with "all this legal stuff", and how it fits in with his or her Christian morals and beliefs.
Both comprehensive in scope and friendly in tone, the legal topics addressed have been selected to cover situations average people encounter in the course of everyday life. Hot topics are examined, such as living wills, living trust, medical assistance planing, bankruptcy, divorce, estate planning, criminal defense, taxes, and real estate matters. Every chapter includes two life lessons of individual facing these critical issues.
readers will be enlightened, encouraged in their faith, and empowered in their ability to make sound decisions to honor that faith, even in the high-stakes, pressure-filled, secular legal arena.
Stephen L.Bloom is a practicing attorney and a frequent speaker on Christianity and the law. He is an adjunct instructor at Messiah College, where he teaches courses in personal finance and the economics of social issues, and serves as a consultant at the United Methodist Stewardship Foundation of Central Pennsylvania. He is the former host of the "Practical Counsel-Christian Perspective" radio program. Mr.Bloom has been actively involved in the leadership of numerous community, church, and ministry organizations. He resides in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, with his wife and three children.
"The Believer's Guide to Legal Issues is a page turner-easy to read and yet powerful in applying Scripture to real life situations."

Dave Kline5 Stars Out Of 5April 16, 2008Dave KlineThis book focuses on attempting to resolve life's many conflicts and disputes through the application of Christian values and teachings as an alternative to going through the traditional legal process. Steve's writing is easy to understand for ordinary people like myself and he includes many practical examples in a very interesting, entertaining, emotional and thought provoking manner! I highly recommend this book!
Sharonn Davis Halderman5 Stars Out Of 5January 18, 2008Sharonn Davis HaldermanAs a pastor I have journeyed with Christians struggling to understand how to apply Biblical principles and truths in the ebb and flow of daily life. Steve Bloom has written a helpful and readable book that demonstrates clearly how Biblical principles may be brought to bear on legal issues faced by ordinary people. Bloom contrasts the usual legal approach with the Christian approach in an interesting format that proves to be informative and revealing. This is a book that should provoke thought and stimulate conversation about the intersections of life and faith.

Stephen Hague5 Stars Out Of 5December 27, 2007Stephen HagueAs someone has rightly quipped, there is not a secular atom in the universe, to infer that the Lordship of Christ extends to all of creation and life. This important biblical theme is well represented in Attorney Blooms much needed exposition of it. This is craftfullly done through his presentation of real-life scenarios that deal with common legal complexities. Someone recently wrote an article asking Where are the new Wilberforces. We can be encouraged that Blooms impressive new work is part of the answer, for it will help prepare many to face legal and life challenges with greater moral fortitude and a sense of what is right that Bloom seeks to engender in us. Bloom narrates numerous, and colorful, life-stories to illustrate the many legal challenges of life and the hazards of legal actions unguided by wisdom. All of the stories serve well to demonstrate the practical value of applying biblical principles to the various real-life situations. He thus creatively juxtaposes, by contrasts, the legal entanglements that can arise in life through unwise choices with the value of living according to the wise principles of scripture, from which he draws many good examples to compliment the narratives. Bloom also takes to task the contemporary secular attitudes and responses that have led us into a quagmire of divorce and domestic litigation. A book like this, in our litigation-weary times, has long been awaited. Though, I suspect, some will find his challenge a bit startling, especially for proposing biblical principles of grace guiding forgiveness and reconciliation over modern notions of justice as getting what is due me that engulf us. Indeed, Blooms proposal deals a healthy blow to the attitude of retribution and is thus an advance for the gospel of Christ as it applies to all of life. The wisdom here is challenging, wholesome, and most of all a devout and serious call to think and live biblically.

Tell us a little about yourself. I'm a Christian Lawyer (yes, I know some folks consider that combination impossible, but by God's grace I've worked diligently to integrate my faith with my legal profession). I've been in private practice for 20 years. I also teach as an Adjunct Professor at Messiah College. I'm a Certified Lay Speaker in my church and I serve as a Consultant to the United Methodist Stewardship Foundation of Central Pennsylvania. I became a born again believer in Jesus Christ as a young adult. I'm married with three kids. I love getting out to churches, academic institutions and other venues to talk about my hopeful vision for Christianity and the law.
What was your motivation behind this project? I wanted to share a healing, hopeful and practical Christian understanding of the most common legal issues facing ordinary Christian believers.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? To realize that they don't have to be taken in by the typical destructive secular legal mindset of greed, retribution and revenge. To realize that they can take hold, instead, of something much better, something that will honor Christ. To realize that common legal situations can be the place for a powerful witness of restoration, reconciliation and forgiveness, in the name of Jesus.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? It helped me go deeper into the Bible and better understand God's perspective on the law. And it's already provided me with amazing opportunities to share my faith and meet so many encouraging new friends in Christ.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? The late Larry Burkett was probably my greatest inspiration as a Christian author/teacher. His teachings on stewardship have been such a blessing for me and my family. There are so many others it would be hard to list them all - Chuck Colson, Coach Mac (Bill McCartney, the founder of Promise Keepers), Bill Hybels (especially through his Leadership Summits) are a few. And, of course, John Wesley is huge influence on my life and faith. And I love many contemporary Christian recording artists - some who've really inspired me over the years would be DC Talk, the late Rich Mullens, Third Day, Audio Adrenaline, the Newsboys, Michael W. Smith, Paul Baloche, Kim Hill, Rita Springer, and Saline - but really that's only scratching the surface, there are so many I've been blessed by.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: God wants you to be a witness for Him in every situation. Even when you are drawn into legal matters.
