The Truth About Sex and Waiting Uncovered
Purity. Sex. Boys. Waiting. Theres something about those words that makes everything complex in a heartbeat, and raises more questions than answers. Is there something wrong with me if I dont kiss a boy after a date? Or am I doomed if I DID? What if waiting is just a one-way trip to life as a crazy cat woman? And what if I tend to, um, think about a certain boy in a certain way? It seems that the lady at church and your friends have two very different opinions on the subject. And Your Budding Womanhood: Staying a Beautiful Flower for Jesus just isnt cutting it.
Bekah Hamrick Martin knows the waiting game isnt easy or straight-forward. In The Bare Naked Truth, she lays everything on the tableincluding some embarrassing momentsas she explores the honest, naked truth behind what God means by purity. With additional entries from popular authors, youll see the bare naked approach to waiting isnt always easy, but its worth the risk.
Bekah Hamrick Martin was born in Savannah, Georgia, in an event which her brother keeps reminding her was completely unnecessary. She spent the better part of her high school years vacationing on the north end of her mattress due to an illness, where she developed a deep taste for chocolate and sarcasm. Today Bekah shares with teens about tough times, healing, and surviving their high school yearsno matter where they spend them.

She covers topics that many might classify as taboo. Nonetheless, if you are a Christian teenage girl (or even if you aren't) I think you could gain a lot by reading The Bare Naked Truth.
Throughout the book, Bekah shares appropriate scripture and has several of her friends share their personal stories/experiences/testimonies in the hope that we, as the reader, can learn from other people's mistakes and make our own educated decisions. I never once felt being preached at or talked down to. Bekah writes very openly and from the heart. She also makes some excellent points while making me laugh at the same time.
I read The Bare Naked Truth in about four to five hours, just because I couldn't put it down. Bekah really makes you step back and reexamine your plans in a positive way. I'm really glad that I had the chance to review this. Personally, reading the book made me rethink my decisions and plans. I highly recommend it!
I received this book from DJC Communications in return for an honest review of my opinions, which I have done. Thanks!
RobinVAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A great resource for teens and adults alike!May 23, 2013RobinVAge: 25-34Gender: femaleAuthor Bekah H. Martin wrote a fantastic book! She is humorous, insightful, and flat out honest. Girls of all (appropriate) ages will have no problem making a connection with her through her writing.
There are a good number of guest writers in The Bare Naked Truth sharing their personal stories with us. Some were abused, others stuck with the purity path, while others did as they pleased until Jesus showed them how much they were worth to Him. It is comforting to see that we are not alone in this walk of life. That there are people going through the same struggles as we are. But it is how we choose to approach and overcome them. Will we choose to run into the arms of others, or into the arms of God?
At the end of each chapter there is a fun quiz to find out how you rate on the topic that was covered in the chapter. It took me back to my teen years. After finding out how you rate, there are a couple journal questions to dig a bit deeper into your heart. Also in the back of the book you are offered ways to connect with her, the guest writers, and other young ladies who are there to encourage you and be encouraged themselves. I love each of these "helps".
I believe this is going to be a much needed resource for my daughter when she becomes a teenager. As a parent I can only influence her so much. She will one day make her decision, and I truly hope she will choose God's best plan for her!
***Thank you Litfuse Publicity Group and Zondervan Publishers for the free book in exchange for my honest review.***
Q: Is the topic of 'self pleasuring' addressed? Could you tell me if the issue of "self-pleasuring" is addressed in this book? I know that masturbation is included in most purity books written for boys/men, but I think it is a larger issue with young women than we may realize. I want to have a few books on purity available for my daughter to read, and would like to know whether this topic is addressed in this specific book. Thank you!
Yes, this topic is addressed in the chapter titled, "Lie #7, Masturbation Will Help Me Save Myself".
