Late to the bakery one dim, foggy morning, Audrey strikes a vehicle that she can't see even after the collision settles. Emerging from her car into the fog, she discovers that she's hit a motor scooter. There's no rider in sight. There's blood though, so much so that she slips in it and injures her wrists.
The absence of the scooter driver is a mystery, especially to Sergeant Jack Mansfield, the detective and church member who drove Geoff from his pulpit. The scooter belongs to Jack's wife, Julie, a teacher at the local high school. She has vanished like morning fog.

Before Audrey was the baker's wife, she was the pastor's wife.
Then a scandalous lie cost her husband a pastoral career. Now the two work side-by-side running a bakery, serving coffee, and baking fresh bread. But the hurt still pulls at Audrey.
Driving early one morning to the bakery, Audrey's car strikes somethingor someoneat a fog-shrouded intersection. She finds a motor scooter belonging to a local teacher. Blood is everywhere, but there's no trace of a body.
Both the scooter and the blood belong to detective Jack Mansfield's wife, and he's certain that Audrey is behind Julie's disappearance.
But the case dead-ends and the detective spirals into madness. When he takes her family and some patrons hostage at the bakery, Audrey is left with a soul-damaged ex-con and a cynical teen to solve the mystery. And she'll never manage that unless she taps into something she would rather leave behindher excruciating ability to feel other's pain.

AndreaLisaBelize, C.AAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Definitely a page turner!March 9, 2012AndreaLisaBelize, C.AAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4The Baker's Wife is a great work of fiction, full of mystery and suspense. As the title suggests the main character in this book is Audrey, the wife of a former pastor. After he was kicked out of the church due to a scandal, they opened up a small bakery. Audrey was involved in an accident where Julie, the wife of a detective just disappeared without a trace, just lots of blood.
The mystery continues to deepen and I had a hard time walking away from this book. The author did a wonderful job with describing the scenery, the atmosphere and characters in the book. The suspense was great, I couldn't figure out how the book would end or what would happen next! It's definitely a page turner.
Throughout this book, Audrey's faith and learning to listen to that small still voice was remarkable. It made me wonder how many opportunities I had missed because of ignoring or not paying attention to that small still voice. I also loved how their family kept close and stayed tight together through such a trying time.
Now remember that it is a work of fiction and some of the experiences that Audrey had I found to be a bit weird but I could easily over look it because of how good the book was. I was a bit disappointed with the ending of the book, in one way I didn't want it to end yet and on the other hand I was hoping for a more in depth ending.
However, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery and stories of working your way through hardships. It really is a great read.

CYChanMalaysiaAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Good readJanuary 17, 2012CYChanMalaysiaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5This is a very interesting story. Again, I'm amazed by the way the author tells a story. The pace is not fast, but not too slow that will make you lost interest. The author has her unique way on slowly revealing more and more on the characters throughout the whole book. I like Geoff, Audrey and Ed. They did not give up and still trust the God despite what had happened to them. On the other hand, Jack was blaming others on what had happened thinking he's right. Just because he's an detective, did not do any things that's against the law does not mean he's always right and deserved only good things.
This book is a Christian fiction. It's a book about hope, having faith, healing and forgiveness. I enjoy reading this book very much. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

girlsmamaEdgewood, WAAge: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5The Baker's Wife- a great recipe for a great read!November 7, 2011girlsmamaEdgewood, WAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I'm a multi-tasker. I like to kill the proverbial 2 birds with one stone. And so that is exactly what I did while reading The Baker's Wife by Erin Healy. I headed to the gym, jumped on the elliptical and started reading away. For me it's a win-win situation, because my body gets that much needed work out in and my mind is otherwise engaged - perfect. Lest you think that I didn't really get a great workout while reading this book, I will tell you that because of the intensity of the book, the pacing, really engaging characters, and truly intriguing storyline, I found the pages turning, heart rate up, and an hour and 627 calories burned later, a great workout for sure, not to mention a great and suspenseful read. As I doubt that you are really interested in my workout habits, let me just say that once again I have found Erin Healy's writing to be quite captivating by giving her characters such fascinating back stories. She artfully weaves her story together a little at a time till all the pieces come together to produce quite a fascinating and beautifully done story.
Geoff and Audrey Bofinger are former Pastor and Pastor's wife stripped of their positions at the local church in Cornucopia, CA, by a man named Jack Mansfield who accused the Pastor of something that he didn't do. The Pastor and Pastor's wife turn Into Baker and Baker's wife as they try to pull their lives together and buy a local bakery in town. Sadly, Audrey is involved in an auto meets scooter accident that Jack feels has to do with his wife Julie's disappearance. The accident scene is filled with lots of blood, but no body. Jack is convinced that the Bofinger's, Audrey in particular, have master minded an evil plot that will somehow explain Julie's disappearance and so he takes matters into his own hands and something snaps as He seeks to bring God's justice to the Bofingers.
Audrey is a special character in this story as her remarkable ability to empathize goes beyond a normal person's extreme empathy. She is able to relate to people with her extreme sensitivity that can't be explained except as a special gift from God, she literally feels their pain. Also in the mix is a character named Diane Hall who is an ex-con with an interesting story of her own as she just happens to show up in Cornucopia right as Julie has disappeared. As her story comes to light, you can see how the author has woven everyone's path's together to meet for a very special and redemptive type story.
I was definitely drawn into this story. Erin's style of writing is just lovely to read and she paints such perfect pictures with words. I have to say she developed a really interesting villain in Jack, one that views himself as the most righteous of righteous and the effects that has on the relationships around him. Another aspect of the story that I liked was that things weren't just tied up with a nice bow at the end of the story. Where there is sin, there are consequences and things take a while to heal, but there was definitely a feeling of hopefulness for the characters that you most cared about.
So, work out done, check, great book read to add to Erin Healy's other great books check. Now it's time to go and raid my kids' Halloween stash, because that's the whole point of working out, right?
Excellent read- 4.5 stars.
