Publisher's Description

A terrible darkness has fallen upon Jacob Weisz’s beloved Germany. The Nazi regime, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, has surged to power and now hold Germany by the throat. All non-Aryans—especially Jews like Jacob and his family—are treated like dogs.

When tragedy strikes during one terrible night of violence, Jacob flees and joins rebel forces working to undermine the regime. But after a raid goes horribly wrong, Jacob finds himself in a living nightmare—trapped in a crowded, stinking car on the train to the Auschwitz death camp.

As World War II rages and Hitler begins implementing his “final solution” to systematically and ruthlessly exterminate the Jewish people, Jacob must rely on his wits and a God he’s not sure he believes in to somehow escape from Auschwitz and alert the world to the Nazi’s atrocities before Fascism overtakes all of Europe. The fate of millions hangs in the balance.

After a so-so start (the main character, Jacob, does not show up until Part Two, and the character of Luc never really came alive for me), the story really becomes engrossing as the reader is forced to see the reality of life and death in the Nazi death camps. Escape seems impossible, but the terrible risks are thought worth it, not just to regain freedom but to tell the world the truth about what is happening at Auschwitz.

It's the kind of book that's hard to put down, but at the same time it's hard to read, because this isn't just fiction, it's a fictionalized account of what really went on under Hitler's rule. The fact that an escape takes place isn't a spoiler you can guess it from the title. But it's also probably not giving much away to say that some people will die as a result of the escape, and you don't know who they will be.

I can't say I *enjoyed* the story I don't think it's the kind of story intended to be enjoyed but it was definitely worth reading.

I found this book very interesting and a good read. I didn't realize that some had escapped. I hope younger people will read this. It did happen maybe not this exact way but like this happened.

I am still reading it but can almost feel it happening today. With all the conflict going on against the Christian community in the Middle East, you can feel the need for Christ to return.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was somewhat different than others Joel Rosenberg has written, but based on a true story. It holds your interest to the very end, a book you do not want to put down

    I recommend it 100%.

I read this book as a prelude of going to Auschwitz on my trip to Europe. I was very glad I had read it and I found it related in so many areas of what we were hearing as we toured the Concentration Camp...it seemed to bring things to life for me while there. After I read it, I gave it to my friend as well as to my daughter to read before we got to Poland. All three of us felt it was very authentic.
