In the interest of full disclosure, I'm an author that knows and has worked with Jeff Gerke. He was the editor for two of my novels, in fact. I respect his knowledge and opinions. They are very logical and, if followed, will not only make you a better writer, but make your stories better as well.

In The Art & Craft of Writing Christian Fiction you will find the essence of what Jeff teaches as an editor, publisher and writing instructor. It is like having him in the room with you as you write.

For a craft book, The Art & Craft is an amazingly fast read. It is full of useful insight and wisdom to help with your writing quest. There are over fifty topics covered, from dialog to plotting to character creation. Many common writer mistakes are highlighted as well, along with the fixes.

I especially like all the pop culture and movie references Mr. Gerke weaves into the book. While making the book entertaining, those examples really help illustrate his points.

Finally, this book is encouraging, another quality of Mr. Gerke's that managed to make it onto the page. As he says within, he really does love Christian fiction and the people that write it. And who wouldn't want to work with a person like that?

Get yourself a copy of this book and improve your writing today. Highly recommended!

The Art and Craft of Writing Christian fiction by Jeff Gerke is now a forever stay on my bookshelf! This is a must have book for any aspiring Christian novelist. I've long wanted to read a systematic, without being formulaic, guide to writing Christian fiction. This.Book.Is.It It covers all aspects of writing fiction, profanity, telling, dialogue, description, things I hadn't even though about!

It won't tell you what to write, or what color socks to wear; but it will tell you how to write your story with excellence—and the socks you wear are up to you. The Art and Craft is divided into easy to digest and read sections with a common theme called,"Mega Mastery Clusters". If I need to check out some extra information on dialogue, I just check out the Dialogue Mastery Cluster. How about Showing Versus Telling? Go to that mastery cluster. The layout of the book is designed for reading straight through like I did, while still retaining the ability to start in one section and read through without needing to read the sections prior.

The Art and Craft is packed full of so many useful tidbits and writing advice, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to master it all. But I can tell you this, armed with The Art and Craft of Writing Christian fiction, I'm well on my way to becoming, God willing, an author with work in progress worth talking about.

"Toss aside your s'mores and put on your director's chapeau. It's time to stop telling stories and start making movies--on paper." This is the theme of Jeff Gerke's lessons on writing fiction. It's absolutely brilliant. As Jeff gives the example of a story told around a flickering campfire, you will see the difference between showing and telling. You can't miss it. Sure, it will still take a lot of work to get your own writing to that point, but I wish I would have had this book back when I first started. Thankfully, I am always learning and this book is filled with so much good information, I will refer to it again and again. I highly recommend it for all writers. It's the king of book you read and learn so much from. But it's also the kind of book that you will want to pick up for reference when you need help. As Jeff says, "You are not a Jedi yet." So if you want to learn how to write great fiction, if you need a bit of extra help with your writing, or if you need to know what you are doing wrong, you must have this book. You must. It's worth it for Jeff's Star Wars references alone.
