Sergio Cariello was born in Brazil in 1964 and started drawing as soon as could hold a pencil. At the age of five, he already knew that he wanted to be a cartoonist. And so did everyone else--he drew on church bulletins, napkins, and every surface wtihin his reach. He currently resides in Holiday, Florida.
Sergio has worked for Marvel Comics and DC Comics. He attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art as well as the Word of Life Bible Institute in upstate New York.
In February, 2006, he was contacted by David C. Cook to gauge his interest in a new project; completely re-illustrating Cook's classic Picture Bible. What David C. Cook couldn't know is that Sergio had grown up in Brazil with a Portuguese translation of that very same Picture Bible. He was reading the Picture Bible before he learned to ride a bike! Even though he knew as a kid that he wanted to be a comic artist, he never would have dreamed that he would one day get to work on the Picture Bible itself!

me4 Stars Out Of 5Attention GetterFebruary 9, 2016meQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3I ordered these bibles to give to some boys who have no church or Christian influence in their lives. I felt they would be attracted to the comic book style and minimal reading. My prayer is claiming the promise of Isaiah 55:11.
My greatest concern about these bibles is that the children will actually view what is written and illustrated the same way they do actual comic books - that it is fantasy. I pray that these simulated bibles will lead them to the true bible, wherein lies the riches of the glory of God's grace.
Q: Age appropriate? Regarding "The Action Bible" - what is the youngest age that this would be appropriate for?
This book is recommended for ages 9-12.
Q: How does this compare to the Good and Evil Graphic bible? Very similiar?
The illustrations and style of writing are very similar. However, the "Action Bible" has 750 pages so it is able to cover more material than the "Good and Evil Bible", which has 324 pages.
Q: I need more information about the Action Bible. The Lord has laid an 18 year old deaf mute upon my heart to mentor. Because he cannot speak it's hard to know how much he comprehends. He loves watching action movies and sports, so I was wondering if this would help him comprehend the price Jesus paid for him. Is this Action Bible both old & new testament? Does it come in a video?
The Action Bible has 215 stories from the Old and New Testament, arranged in chronological order. The stories are told in a comic book style featuring clear writing and dramatic images. It is not available as a video.
Q: What age group is the Action Bible for?
This Bible is designed for ages 9 to 12.
Q: What are the dimensions of this Bible?

Currently working on the Lone Ranger(Dynamic Forces), Son of Samson with writer Gary Martin for Zondervan/ Harper Collins, and other gigs here and there.
What was your motivation behind this project? To do a Life changing, Eternal value, relevant project the way I love to do: Comic Book format. When they called me, offering me to do it, I could not contain my excitement to revamp the Classic Picture Bible I read when I was a kid. This has probably been the most significant project of my life. I wish I was given more time to accomplish it but I had to do it in 3 years.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Get entertainment and get inspired, hopefully get touched inwardly, reconnecting with the Artist of artists: Jesus Christ , who is present not only in the New Testament but in the Old testament as well. So I hope they gain life, full, never ending life.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I know the main Character, Jewish carpenter of this story of Love and redemption. Many times, while drawing the pages I found myself in need of applying the life teaching principals within this Divine inspired script in my own private world. One of the colorists got a personal life encounter with the messiah of the story. The subject matter taps into our soul in ways that can be revolutionary for our betterment .
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? From comics, strips and graphic novels: Hal Foster's Prince Valiant, Joe Kubert's Tarzan, John Buscema's Conan , Frank Frazetta's books , Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon and many others . In the movies side: Mel Gibson's "The Passion" and Franco Zeffirelli's "Jesus of Nazareth" .
