I did like the story, but my only complaint was the way the author skimmed over several details quickly for some periods of the character's lives.

For a novel it was very well written along with using some of the standards of history. I am not a historian however there are facets of history that do interest me. Slavery and also the Holocaust. I cannot understand how people can think like they did in these times.

I really loved this book. I felt it was very realistic. (Bad things happened and good things). I'm going to purchase more books written by this author.
