I am reading this aloud to my 11 year old son. We are both engaged in the stories, and it's been interesting to note the flow and timeline, which our kids don't necessarily get in Sunday School. Personally I find the "transition" writing which fills in omitted scripture and sometimes seems to summarize a bit, to be more readable and engaging than the scripture. I would be interested in a book that is written completely in that style - to complement this one.
There are lots of neat additions that we are enjoying: footnotes and definitions of "scripture-y" words, a timeline, the chapter titles, and there's even a flip-book feature that's fun.
I am grateful for this "manageable" way to read the Bible as one continuous story. My son is becoming refamiliarized with the stories, discovering some new ones, and developing a perspective on how they are all connected. And it's a bonus that I get to do it alongside him as I read it aloud.
