ToriWatertown, NYAge: 35-44Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5It will not run on a MacbookFebruary 7, 2015ToriWatertown, NYAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1We started out using this with a PC, which died a slow death. I tried to download it to a Mac and it will not work. I emailed the teaching textbook customer service and their responce was they are working on making the materials available online, although they don't have a release date. That pretty much ended the use of the product for us. About the time our laptop died my child was using Khan Academy as a suppliment to understand concepts that are not explained well in Teaching Textbooks. He was learning more from Khan Academy than the actual product. I ordered a new curriculum altogether. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the lessons or the actual teaching.
K.K.5 Stars Out Of 5Love!March 24, 2014K.K.Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We used Bob Jones University Math from grades K-6. I really liked it from K-5 (and still use it for the younger children), but no one liked the changes in the 6th grade format. I went to my homeschool convention with my math for 7th grade narrowed down to Saxon or Teaching Textbooks. I was leaning towards Saxon after reading the comment on here that TT was too easy. We feel very blessed that math has never been a hard subject for our family and TT just sounded too easy. At the homeschool convention, I found an 8th grade boy just hanging out at TT booth. (I'm serious!) So I went from asking questions to the lady from TT to the 8th grade boy. Sorry, but he was MUCH more helpful. His mother came looking for him and I told her God put him there just for me. :) They too had done BJU math from K-6. (How cool!) They too had considered the same two curriculums we had. (Could that be a coincidence?) And they too had done another subject in SOS and hated it. (I did Bible SOS on a disk. I didn't want a repeat of a DVD curriculum that was boring and NOT user friendly.) This student couldn't say enough good things about TT. I told the TT lady that she needed to give him a commission because I bought it. And never looked back. So happy with the 7th grade TT! My two loved it! They are actually excited to start it up again. I even told them I was considering skipping to Algebra and was starting it summer break to test it and they didn't whine. :) This is SO user friendly! I can't stress that enough. I needed NO tech support...which is pretty amazing for me. I needed it for SOS and STILL felt I could have used more. The lectures were SO helpful and they could work independent from me and I only stepped in when they needed extra help. I set up a rule that any grade under 80% they needed to tell me and we'd go back and work it together (again so easy to go back and edit grades or erase their work so that they have to work a few individual problems again...or erase the whole days work. Of course the parent portion is password protected so that they can' t change their own grades! Actually the student portion is password protected, too, because you can have a few students using it at the same time.). The disk graded for me! Quizes AND daily work. I'm so grateful for this great curriculum where my children are thriving, they feel confident, I don't have to sit over them, no grading, etc. I was very nervous of wasting time more than wasting money. I'm glad we made the decision to buy TT. We'll be using until graduation! Wish there were other subjects to buy that were similar to TT. I even thought the value was a steal considering I can reuse with all of my children! They even have a page that you can print out grades for your portfolio!VERY happy with our new math curriculum!
JessicaAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Perfect for my 12yo! Wonderful customer service!January 10, 2013JessicaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I love Teaching Textbooks! This is my first year using them and my 12yo does so well with it! She's an independently driven student, so that helps, but the program is simple, explains concepts clearly, and my daughter can navigate it without a problem. She loves looking back over her grades and that visual motivates her to work hard. We have had to reset the program due to personal computer problems and the customer service was wonderful, knowledgeable, and genuinely looking to help, such a breath of fresh air! Math is not my forte, I look forward to having all of my children using TT!
ElizabethChico, CaAge: 25-34Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5Lame-0-rama!September 19, 2012ElizabethChico, CaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 2Meets Expectations: 2My kids really wanted to try this curriculum because it looked so fun....I liked that it looked easy for me...built in grading & gradebook, SWEET!....unfortunately, I think it's too easy for them....I had my first grader doing math 3...keep in mind she has only had Singapore K math....she got 100% on the first 3 lessons....easy! But my bigger concern is she was learning how to get the right answer but not learning the big picture math concepts we saw with Singapore.....Singapore's though, I'm not going to lie....I found it frustrating because I have 3 grades & one of mine has learning issues, Singapore was super hard for her...but at this point I felt like a bad Mommy to let me kids do TT....I wanted to like it because I thought it would make my life easy....and it would. But we're in California & this is way below the expectations I had for it. I don't want to keep up with public school (and actually my children have only been in private & now home)...but this would have put them at a huge disadvantage to continue until college....not because of state schools, because I don't even care if my children want higher education or not...but because Singapore will create larger capacity in them as thinkers for the rest of their life. I'm putting all 3 TT on ebay & ordering Singapore....Last year I was learning from it & enjoyed it expanding my capacity to think creatively & out of the box. I want kids who think big & out of the box too...that's what this world needs. TT is like the math I learned as a kid that's just to get the right answer, not to learn to think differently. My kids are a little sad...they will miss their burbing & growling buddies, but I just can't have a clear conscience letting them use this out of date method after I've been exposed to Singapore. It's WAY inferior to what we're used to....bye bye to the easy life mama....hello working hard to equip kids for the rest of their lives!
