Product Description

In the period that Isaiah the prophet lived there was immense political upheaval across the ancient near-east. The people of God had a choice - to follow their own human policies or to follow the promises of God. They chose to be unfaithful.

The prophet breaks in and calls them to repent asking them to stop violating the covenant. In today's setting this is a message that your hearers will identify with, readily identifying ourselves with the deceitful hearts of the people of Judah, and learn also from their mistakes how our own divided hearts may equally lead us astray. This is not another commentary but a useful resource, which will help the pastor/preacher, a small group leader or a youth worker communicate a message of grace when speaking from the book of Isaiah. It will give you help in planning and executing a lesson in particular with background, structure, key points and application.

Editorial Reviews

The Teaching series is a great resource for Bible study leaders and pastors, indeed for any Christian who wants to understand their Bible better.
"One of the great strengths and advantages of a help like this for preachers and Bible study leaders is that it enables us to get a handle on the big picture of how Isaiah fits together before we dive into all the wonderful details, and to see how each part contributes to the whole. David Jackman is a master at never losing the plot."

Excellent resource, but more "preacher" oriented

The book is an excellent resource on Isaiah. The book was purchased with the intent to use it for presenting a Bible study. While it does lend itself to developing a Bible study, it is oriented more toward the "preacher" developing sermons than toward conducting a Bible study. I do like the fact that at the end of most chapters, it provides a short Bible study outline. I do realize that preparing a sermon is akin to presenting a Bible study, but not having received any theological training, the approach is a little different from what I anticipated. However, I am very pleased with the book.
