Books Which Build Character
Beautiful Feet âÂÂTeaching Character Through Literatureâ is authored by home school graduate, Rebecca Manor. She is the author of Beautiful FeetâÂÂs âÂÂA History of ScienceâÂÂ, âÂÂThe History of Classical MusicâÂÂ, âÂÂMedieval Historyâ and co-author of âÂÂEarly American and World Historyâ and âÂÂAncient HistoryâÂÂ.
âÂÂTeaching Character Through Literatureâ is a guide to introduce your child to the world of childrenâÂÂs literature. Books not only provide enjoyment, they also shape and influence our lives. The guide is organized according to Primary Readers, Grades Kindergarten âÂÂThird Grade and Intermediate Readers, Grades Fourth-Sixth Grade. The book lists are organized by author and title, with a synopsis of the book to assist the parent in choosing books. The books can be read by the parent with their child or the parent can use the guide as a tool to aid in selecting books for the child to read independently. For those parents who want to read the books with their child and desire to draw out the lessons from the text, the author has included study notes and comprehension questions for both Primary and Intermediate categories. Our family favorites from the Primary Readers list include, Good Night Moon, Stone Soup, The Valentine Bears, Miss Rumphius, The Courage of Sarah Noble, One Morning in Maine, The Boxcar Children, and The Matchlock Gun. The EmperorâÂÂs New Clothes, The Snow Queen, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Caddie Woodlawn, Caddie WoodlawnâÂÂs Family, The Secret Garden, CharlotteâÂÂs Web, The Trumpet of the Swan and Strawberry Girl are the family favorites among the Intermediate Readers list.
The guide is divided into the following components: How this Guide is Used, Explanatory notes, Primary Reading List, Study Notes for Primary Readers, Intermediate Reading List, Study Notes for Intermediate Readers, Favorite Adaptations of Bible Stories and Answer Key.
Overall our family has been pleased with the Teaching Character Through Literature. We look forward to using Beautiful Feet guides and books as we continue our home education journey.
