It was the beginning of what should have been a great family vacation. Todd and Tara Storch had brought their three children to Vail, Colorado for a week of skiing and family time. It was on the last run of their first day on the slopes when the unthinkable happened. Due to an accident on her ski run, thirteen-year-old Taylor died tragically, leaving her family reeling from loss and shock. In the moments just following Taylor's death, her doctors asked the Storch's if they wanted to donate Taylor's organs. Considering what Taylor would have wanted, they said yes, and changed the lives of five people forever.
Taylor's Gift is the story of Taylor's all too brief life, and the emotional pain of losing a child, but it's also a story of hope springing from tragedy. In time, the Storch's decided they wanted to meet the recipients of Taylor's organs. Knowing that part of Tara's life lives on in these five people gave the Storch's strength to heal and to discover new purpose as advocates for organ donation. Reading their story will encourage you to find purpose beyond the pain of grief, and touch your heart with it's message of hope. Includes 8 pages of color photos. Softcover.

Now Tara and Todd share their inspiring story, shining a light at the end of the tunnel for those enduring the suffering of losing a loved one. Through the stories of the donor recipients, readers will discover hope in the midst of pain. Honest with their struggles, the Storches show readers that life is a gift and our response to grief is a choice. They also speak with a clear voice about the importance and the blessing of being an organ donor, telling the inspiring story of the creation of Taylor's Gift Foundation and its goals to raise awareness of the need for organ donation, to re-gift life, renew health, and restore families. They are changing the conversation around the globe that organ donation is not about death--it's about life! Foreword by Max Lucado.

This is the kind of story they like, so I am sure they will like them. Again, a nice Christmas gift for a good price. I am not that much of a reader, but I started reading it and liked it. Hope to be real careful reading it myself before I send it as a gift. But if it does get missed up, I know other friends who will enjoy it as "used" reading. Again, the price was right.

When the unthinkable happens to their young daughter her parents are gracious enough to donate her organs which improved and saved the lives of five strangers. This book is extraordinarily inspiring and hopefully reminds all who read it why donating organs is so very important. It was also great to see how the family turned their loss into a crusade in which they honored their daughter by creating a foundation committed to promoting organ donation. The family is also able to connect with the recipients of their daughters organs. I believe if more people could see or hear first hand how recipients of their loved ones donated organs lives were saved or vastly improved from receiving these organs more people would consider organ donation than currently do. I hope this book helps others see what a selfless act organ donating is and they register to be organ donors themselves. If everyone registers to be donors prior to an unexpected injury/death it would make their families decision much easier during their time of shock/grief because they will already know your wishes so they don't have to try and contemplate what your wishes may have been in regards to organ donation, they would already know!! A MUST READ FOR EVERONE...THEN PASS IT ON TO THOSE YOU LOVE SO THEY CAN READ IT TOO!!

Everyone has their struggles, and this is beyond difficult, how Todd and Tara leaned on each other and God is a true testament to their faith and their family. I also have a new outlook on organ donation. What a positive way to show how important this option is when so many people have the complete wrong idea about it. I would highly recommend this for families, Bible Studies, Book Clubs, or just someone struggling with why things happen and how to question God and not walk away from Him!

The journey of her parents and siblings is shown in its entirety, no hiding, no white-washing, just the bare bones of it. Definitely a hard read, well told, but heart breaking. This is not a read for the faint of heart, but one that needs to be read. Not everyone's journey will be like this, for sure no one will have the exact same experiences, but it deals very aptly with the facts and emotions. What made this even more memorable was that it is actually told from more than one point of view. First of all, both the mother and father tell their stories, both of the grief and then of decisions that needed to be made, the strengths and weaknesses of both parents, and then also of the recipients of the organ donations. I had not read or seen anything of this book before Julie Warkentin of Graf-Martin Communications offered it to me for a review, but I am thrilled to be posting a review on my blog.

ACS Book FinderAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Heart-breaking & heart-lifting storyApril 22, 2013ACS Book FinderAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Taylor'sGift is a heart-breaking and heart-lifting story at the same time. The Storch's lost their daughter, 13-year oldTaylor, in March 2010 while on a family ski trip. It was the last time down the slopes and Taylor lost control and hit a tree. Her Dad and brother were witnesses; Mom and sister were back at the lodge waiting. Todd and Tara Storch made the most difficult decision and that was to donate Taylor 's organs. The paths their lives take after making this decision is what Taylor 's Gift is all about.
Their story is not unique because they lost a child. It is unique because they chose to tell everyone about their loss and the positive that came out of their grief - an organization dedicated to spreading valuable information about the benefit of organ donation. The Storchs tell how they met the recipients of their daughter's organs and the connection felt with each one.
I could not put the book down and I shed many tears while reading the Storchs' story. The pain and reality of their loss was evident in each page of the book. I do not recommend this book for casual reading; but I'm glad that I had the opportunity to read it. It gave me a newfound respect for those who have suffered such a loss.
