This was such a fun story! I thoroughly enjoy Lisa Wingate's writing style. Her description of life in Daily, Texas made me want to be a part of the small town. The idyllic scenery provided the perfect backdrop for the story and helped to break up the thoughts and actions of the characters, keeping the reader interested.

The characters, supporting and main, were fantastic. I could feel the tension and stress Mandalay was under. The author captured those emotions and made them real. The chemistry between Mandalay and Carter was intriguing and well-written. Imagene Doll's character, by far, was my favorite! I could hear her sweet southern accent and imagine her going on with life around Daily. Her wit and sarcasm was greatly appreciated throughout the book.

What I felt the story was missing, however, was a strong Christian message. Don't get me wrong, there was a message. I think Imagene's character sums up the message nicely when she states: "...sometimes in life you carry the ball, sometimes you just run along, and sometimes you're flat on your back, but just because you don't have the ball don't mean it's not moving toward the goal." What Imagene is saying, and the author is trying to get across, is that sometimes you have to let go and let God. We are not in control of our lives, no matter how hard we try. I just feel like the message wasn't expressed enough in Mandalay's life.

Overall, this was a fun, enjoyable story! I would recommend it for anyone who wants a quick read with witty characters and Southern Texas charm!

Very enjoyable book! Mandalay and Imagene are two wonderful characters who are easy to relate to. Their stories are heartfelt and honest. Daily, Texas, is a town I'd certainly like to visit so I could get to know some of the locals; they are very kind, helpful people. This story is rich with great characters, emotions, humor, and so much more. Mandalay is striving for something that she really doesn't want anymore if she ever truly did. Imagene is still mourning the loss of her husband and living a secluded life. Amber is trying to do the right thing despite all the bad press surrounding her. Carter is starting on a new journey for good reasons. These people are really, fun, happy, sad, etc. And Daily is certainly a town full of wonderful people. My one issue with the book is that the charcters' relationships with Christ are a little less than I'd like. Overall, Talk of the Town was very hard to put down. A great read and a wonderful choice for book clubs. Get your cowboy hat on and head on down to Daily, Texas, for some great times with some genuine folks.

Great story line - I enjoy the way Lisa Wingate changes the first person perspective between the two main characters in the story.

Let me just start out by saying I love to read and have only read a few books that weren't good enough for me to finish. Well, I thought "Talk of the Town" was going to be one of those books. I read a few chapters and concluded this was just too boring for me and I was going to put it aside. Well, thankfully later on I decided just to go ahead and finish it out. And am so glad I did! The closer to the end I got the better the book got and I couldn't put it down. My advice is to don't give up on it! Because in the end you'll be glad you kept on reading!
