beautiful and fun

In this beautifully illustrated board book, Darrell Wiskur takes children on a journey under the ocean in their very own "silver ship" (or submersible vehicle). With the help of a mirror inserted into the book, kids can see themselves in the "window" of the ship.
The book features very basic information about sea lions and penguins, whales, squids and jellyfish, weird deep sea fish with glowing lights, and sea turtles. The text mentions God several times. For example:
"God made squid and jellyfish
Without any bones!
Deep in the ocean
They are at home.
Some are giant;
Some are small.
God made jellyfish
Squishiest of all."
The last page asks kids to praise God for all creation.
What I Like: The illustrations are very pleasing and both my children(ages 3 and 6) liked the mirror "gimmick".
What I Dislike: Although the first page in the book mentioned the silver ship could take kids on a journey through time, all the pages - except one - feature currently living creatures. In the middle of the book, one two-page spread features a dinosaur - a swimming Plesiousaurs. I had to stop and explain to my youngest that dinosaurs no longer live.
Overall Rating: Very Good.

Wiskur's beautiful illustrations again drew me in right away. He has a marvelous way of illustrating in a child-friendly, yet beautiful and realistic way. This book contains pictures of whales, sea lions, penguins, squid, jellyfish, deep-sea creatures with lights, sea turtles, and even plesiosaurs (dinosaurs that lived in the water). My 20 month old loved the little built-in mirror that shows through a cut-out in every page. The rhyming text is pleasant and short (perfect for my active little guy) while still meaningful - "Praise God for creation, heaven and earth, sky and sea; all that is, or ever will be."I definitely recommend Darrell Wiskur's books. Full of Truth, beautifully illustrated, well written - they are refreshing to read.
