Product Description

Jericho "J.T." Tucker wants nothing to do with Coventry, Texas's new dressmaker. He's all too familiar with her kind--shallow women more devoted to fashion than true beauty. Yet, except for her well-tailored clothing, this seamstress is not at all what he expected. Hannah Richards is confounded by the man who runs the livery. The unsmiling fellow riles her with his arrogant assumptions and gruff manner while at the same time stirring her heart with unexpected acts of kindness. Which side of Jericho Tucker reflects the real man?

Publisher's Weekly

Witemeyer’s debut will grab fans in the historical romance crowd. She blends lively writing, storytelling prowess, and enough romance to keep readers satisfied. Hannah Richards opens her dress shop in 1881 Coventry, Tex., with little more than a dream to help women add beauty to their lives. Livery owner Jericho Tucker, however, finds nothing beautiful in her plans. Despite J.T’s antagonism and Hannah’s strong will, the pair find ways to meet in the middle and come out together. Sidelights include matchmaking on Hannah’s part, a sinister rival, dangerous floodwaters, and two people who truly desire to follow Christ. Readers will ponder, with J.T. and Hannah, the difference between beauty and vanity: “You may see a room full of harmless fashions, but if you open your eyes, you’ll find that, in truth, it is filled with the temptations to indulge in sinful vanity,” he says. “If God had wanted the world to be a somber, colorless place, he would have made everything in black and gray,” she says. Thought-provoking and entertaining faith-based fiction for sure. (June)Copyright 2010 Reed Business Information.

This is my favourite Karen Witemeyer book! I have read it twice already. Hannah is a loveable and interesting character and I particularly enjoyed the warmth of her heart for others along with her strength of character to do what she felt was right and was best for her. She was a woman before her time with her regular exercise regime - the calisthenics program she followed adding another interesting dimension to the book. JT, as a man's man with a hidden heart of gold is a great male lead and Karen does a fantastic job of portraying the palpable, simmering tension between Hannah and JT. This one was hard to put down.

J.T. Tucker is of the opinion that beauty, or at least the pursuit of it, is evil. It was all his mother pined for. . .which had the affect of ending his parents' marriage. So when a sweet young lady (pretty, too) comes to Coventry, Texas, to open a dressmaking shop, J.T. is upset. What's wrong with women like his younger sister wearing serviceable, decent clothing? Why fill their heads with notions they don't need?

Hannah Richards knows God brought her to Coventry, but it's hard to break into the women's circles in the small town. The liveryman across the way isn't the only one who gives her a wide berth, but even so, sullen J.T. seems to be looking out for her in quiet ways. When Hannah hatches a plan to sew a new dress for J.T.'s sister and help her snag the man of her dreams, life will never be the same as various villagers get caught in the drama. At some point, J.T. must realize God created beauty, and not every beautiful, fashionable woman is like his mother.

If you enjoy Christian historical romance with a strong, opinionated heroine and a hero who is in turn stubborn and sweet, you may like A Tailor-Made Bride.
