Very impressed with this purchase. These books contain tons of information to grow in my understanding, as well as foster thought on various subjects. It appears that they have solved the problem of the stiff binding. It is not only easy to hold in your hand, but it lies flat on a table top as well.

The thoroughness of Hodge's 3 Volume work is beyond compare. I have seen other Systematic works, and this is by far the best.

this is one amazing piece of work!I read the biography of martin lloyd jones, and he highly recommend this work,it is easy to read,I thought it would be difficult + it has just been re published now 2008!the binding is way better and the books stay open when reading. One of the best sets I own,can not recommend this more.

I agree with other reviewers that the binding of these volumes is awful (very tight - the books don't sit open at all and have to be forceably held open while reading). But the contents are incredible. Hodge is incredibly clear, thorough and readable. If you are reformed, you'll find a very clear exposition of the doctrines you are familiar with, often following the pattern of the Westminster standards. If you are not from a reformed background, I would recommend that you buy these just to read his section on soteriology in volume 2. Before you reject the Augustinian/Calvinist position, read the best and clearest exposition of it this side of John Owen. The only caution I have about Hodge's systematic theology is that he occasionally quotes other theologians in the original Latin, and sometimes these passages are quite long. If you don't read Latin, you'll lose the point he's making. But these passages are not at all enough to take away from the excellence of this work. I highly recommend it.

This is a classic and one to be sought after. Hodge delivers the goods in a clear and precise manner. The arguments he uses are convincing and very helpful.

The binding of the books on these three volumes are much to be desired. I don't know what the publishers at Hendrickson were thinking making three hardcovers with lengthy numbers of pages into the size of small paperback. The content is good; the binding of the book is bad. You'll get sore wrists after reading through the volumes.

I just received these three volumes and to my disappointment the books were joined together with double sidded tape which made them impossible to separate without tearing holes in the cover material. The content inside is excellent from what I have had time to study. The thing I could do without is much space spent defending arguments that are not being made today.
