Centuries have passed since the Silence, and the few remaining faithful cling to the ancient prophecies of the First One. They wait for the Caller and watch the skies for the Sword in the Stars, even as the world they've always known unravels around them.
Murderous Gorracks have secretly penetrated the kingdom's borders. Their attacks grow more brazen...more horrific, threatening to touch off a war on a scale that hasn't been seen in seven ages.
In the capital city of Anglinore, noble King Aravel ponders the advice of this twin brother Morlan: declare all out war on the Gorrack nation. While Anglinore's High Shepherd, the wise Sebastian Grenlaff urges caution and listens to troubling voices on the wind.
Queen Mariel, due to deliver a child any day, suspects the unthinkable about her husband's brother Morlan. She sets off alone to Morlan's castle in Dunharrow, hoping against hope that she can keep old wounds from erupting in war.
Alastair Coldharrow, tortured by an addiction to the outlawed Witchdrale and haunted by a violent past, wagers his life on the hope that the foretold Halfainin, the Pathwalker, would come. When at last, the Sword appears in the Stars, Alastair begins a fruitless search for the Halfainin that leaves him disillusioned, broken, and lost. Used to caring only for himself, Alastair will enter a maelstrom of conflict as loyalties are tested, dark schemes are hatched, and the many realms of Myriad brace themselves for war.
Will Alastair realize what he has before its too late...for everyone?
Wayne Thomas Batson was born in Seabrook, MD in 1968. During the early years he tortured his older brothers and sisters, doing those things that only younger siblings can do to get on your nerves. Wayne attended Gabriel Duval Senior High School and wrote this for his yearbook. During his high school and early college years, he played lead guitar for a rock band called "Contagious." They were catchy but apparently not enough to get a record deal. Having completed the rigorous Holmes English Literature Curriculum, he graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1991. In 1996. he received his first graduate degree in counseling. He has continued his studies with 36 credit hours of graduate-level reading courses. Having spent the last fifteen years teaching Reading and English to middle school students, Wayne pioneered the active instruction of strategic reading in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, and has written Reading and English curricula for three public school districts in the state. Wayne lives in Eldersburg with his family. Besides dividing his time between family, teaching, and writing, he likes to read, golf, play PS2, travel to the beach, play electric guitar, and create 3D artwork.

firequeenAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5The best yet.May 21, 2012firequeenAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have been a fan of Mr. Batson for some time now and I have to say that this book is my favorite. The world he created in this one held more depth and life. The characters were relatable and real, not cookie cutter or cliched. The conflict was the best part. With most fantasies, the conflict is on a world scale and while this book has that too, there is also a lot of personal conflict that shows these characters to be human. All in all, I loved it.
RAMH4 Stars Out Of 5The Sword in the Stars - 4.5May 9, 2012RAMHQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Storyline - Alistair Coldhollow has changed his ways to follow the First One. Turning from a life of addiction and regret, he gazes upon the stars searching for the sword that will announce the prophesied hero, the Halfainin, that will save the world. A hero Alistair desperately needs. When the sword appears, he goes and tests many to find the Halfainin, but none pass. Falling into despair, he meets a woman running for her life who hands him a bundle containing a babe. After seeking help from an old friend, Abbageal, mystery, war, and love soon follow. But can Alistair receive forgiveness for his past deeds and the world of Myriad be saved from a sly tyrant trying to take the throne?
Personal Opinion - One of the best books yet by Mr. Batson. His characters are so real and the story is so captivating. I got pulled into character's struggles and story without even noticing it happening. I loved the adventure and journey they went on. The land and inhabitants were creative and the Christian analogy of the story was beautifully done. Just beautiful. The villains of the story made my skin crawl and gave me the shivers. I have said this in a previous post but I will say it again, Mr. Batson is talented when it comes to villains. A must read for fantasy, adventure, and Christian readers. They won't be sorry.

KayceeNCAge: Under 18Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5"Sword in the Stars," totally awesome!February 25, 2012KayceeNCAge: Under 18Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Alastair Coldhollow is a struggling man who is trying to run from his past and follow the path he believes he is supposed to have. He believes he is the "Man of Ice," the one to call forth the Halfainin. As he searches for the Halfainin, he becomes increasingly depressed. And it doesn't help things when he becomes the sole guardian of an unnamed, orphan baby.
"Sword in the Stars" is one of the most engrossing books I have read in a very long time. The characters were real, the world was spectacular, and the writing was superb. Mr. Batson always does an amazing job with his characters, and he came through again in this book. I have always respected a hero who was not perfect, sad to say I see that far too often in Christian literature. Alastair seems real and honorable, and I could almost feel the depth of his pain when he thought about his past. It actually made me cry a little, he reminded me so much of some people I know.
Abbagael was a great and quirky character too. I love how Mr. Batson turned the old cliche "secret admirer" thing around. Instead of being quiet about it, Abbagael is very open about her love for Alastair, and it was funny to see the grim Alastair struggle for responses against this outspoken lady.
Myriad is, by far, Mr. Batson's best world so far. I felt like I knew the different races and countries. I have not been drawn into a fantasy world with as much believability since I read "Lord of the Rings."
His plot was awesome too, full of subtle twists and turns that leave you wondering if you turned completely around! He ended his story well, but it leaves you wanting to read "The Errant King," the second book in the series. (Which, BTW, is incredible also)
All in all, fantastic story, fantastic characters, and an exciting ride!
