Located in: boiling springs, NC Submitted: July 29, 2009 Tell us a little about yourself. I'm a Christian first, then a husband and a daddy, then a minister. I love to read and write and talk. Wal-Mart relaxes me, strong coffee is a blessing, and the smell of the woods in October is the closest thing to heaven on earth for me. I grew up on a farm, love tractors, and became a Christian at age 14. That is when I began preaching. I have traveled in 45 states and 30 countries and have spoken to over 2 million people. What was your motivation behind this project? I wanted to write a book for believers who already know Christ, and people of other faiths or no faith at all, who may be curious about God but were afraid or turned off to Christianity...so that all of us could see that God is everywhere, everyday, all around us, speaking to us and trying to get our attention in the most common and un-noticed was, if we will just open our eyes. What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope they will realize that God is real, that He loves them and is not angry with them, and that He is closer to us than we could ever imagine. I also pray that this book helps us train our eyes and ears to see and hear God, and to open our minds and hearts to know and love God. How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Writing the book actually increased my sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and sharpened my vision for seeing God in the ordinary. I actually began to look for connections...between the people I was talking with or the lyrics in a song with my own personal faith in Christ and what the Bible reveals about God. I hope it made me a better person and a better writer, but ultimately I believe it made me a better communicator of the good news of God's love. Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Greatest influences: My dad, Joe King; Billy Graham; the Apostle Paul; Dr. M.A. Thomas of India; Paul "Bear" Bryant; C.H. Spurgeon; Bono of U2 Favorite Authors: C.S. Lewis, Jon Krakauer, J.R.R. Tolkien, Mark Twain, Frederick Buechner, Watchman Nee, Richard Foster, Ted Dekker, Taylor Branch, Eugene Peterson, Ravi Zacharias, Gordon Fee, Todd Still, Mark Driscoll, Elizabeth Kostova, N.T. Wright, Khaled Hosseini Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I am adopted. I have killed a giant bear (in self-defense). I was chased by the Russian Secret Police in Moscow, Russia. I saw God raise a baby from the dead in India. I saved my neighbors arm when it was severed in a car crash (it is now re-attached). I trekked 200 miles on foot in the Himalayas and was bombed in Kashmir. I once gave Garth Brooks autograph to some of his fans who thought I was him. I can talk backwards. Find Related Products
