Publisher's Description

Welcome to Willow Ridge, Missouri! In this cozy Amish town along the banks of the river, the Old Ways are celebrated at the Sweet Seasons Bakery Café, and love is a gift God gives with grace. . .

Summer Of Secrets

Summer has come to Willow Ridge, but Rachel Lantz is looking forward to a whole new season in her life--marriage to strapping carpenter Micah Brenneman, her childhood sweetheart. When a strange Englischer arrives in the café claiming to be the long-lost sister of Rachel and her twin Rhoda, Rachel feels the sturdy foundation of her future crumbling--including Micah's steadfast love. As the days heat up and tempers flare, Rachel and Micah will learn that even when God's plan isn't clear, it will always lead them back to each other. . .

"A heartwarming new voice for fans of Beverly Lewis." --Emma Miller

Author Bio

Charlotte Hubbard sold her first historical romance in 1990, and she's been a slave to her overactive imagination ever since. She has lived in the Midwest most of her life. When she's not writing, she loves touring historic homes, trying new recipes, crocheting, and playing with her Border Collie, Ramona. She's a Presbyterian deacon, sings in her church choir, and plays in the percussion ensemble. She's married to a fine man who - bless him - has never once suggested she get a real job.

I have read many Amish stories, and enjoyed this novel more than most. It features strong female characters who work hard, as expected, but are vulnerable and struggle to leave matters in Gods handsjust like the rest of us. Of course, theres a sweet love story along with an interesting plot twist. I thought the author did a good job presenting characters who seem like real people and who make the reader care. It drew me in immediately and kept the tension taut throughout. I plan to read the rest of the series and try some of the yummy recipes. I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I am in the midst of enjoying all of Charlotte Hubbard's books because of this book and the others she is writing about the Amish. She tells a very good story, and she gives a good education about the Amish and about people in general. Thanks Charlotte for your good work. And of course I appreciate the Christian wisdom included in her work.

"Summer of Secrets" by Charlotte Hubbard, is your standard Amish book. It fills the pages with cliches and Amish catchphrases till you can't hardly stand it. It also relys on the fallback storyline of "the misplaced Amish kid". If the only thing you knew about Amish people was what you read you would think these people couldn't keep track of a kid to save their lives. It's like a massive Amish Easter egg hunt. And then to top it off, fictionwise, they always want to keep outsiders out of it, so they don't bother to look very hard. Now I don't know many Amish, but the ones I have met, I cannot imagine them any of them going "eh, no biggie, I'll get another one". No, can't see it.

This one starts with Tiffany meeting her biological family of Amish folks. Strangley, nobody is happy about it. What starts out as a side story, is the bishop is making Miriam, the mom, sell her building that her business is in. That story line takes over the book about 1/2 way through the book. Hubbard lets go of some of the Amish lingo and cliches and the book gets a lot better. I think she starts in too soon with the Tiffany storyline, because it starts before the reader can learn to care about any of the characters. We don't even know she is missing when she is found. I didn't especially like this one....trying too hard to be too Amish. I received this book for free from www.librarything.com.
