Product Description

Working from a wide range of primary sources, this book draws the reader into ancient world thought patterns faced by the writer of the Pastoral Epistles. The authors provide a compelling case for interpreting the text in 1 Timothy 2:11-15 as a refutation of false teaching, rather than as a narrow restriction on women's role. Their thorough research in the life and language of the Greco-Roman world combines with a clarity of expression and a sensitivity to theological issues that will commend their work to all who care about biblical authority and the ministries of Christian women. Richard and Catherine Clark Kroeger founded the Institute for Lay Training, and Catherine is founder and president of Christians for Biblical Equality. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and is an adjunct professor at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Richard Clark Kroeger & Catherine Clark Kroeger provide the reader with an essential element for a balanced presentation regarding the role (or lack of a role) in the church today. They skillfully lead the reader back through time in an effort to gain an understanding of the culture and the times when Paul was writing. Through an exquisitely woven tapestry of ancient history, biblical and historical facts, and in-depth analysis of pertinent passages, the Kroegers argue that nothing less then an well reasoned understanding of the Church and societal mores and values prevailing at Ephesus when Paul wrote , will yield true and well informed knowledge of Paul's mind and purpose in his letter(1Timothy 2:11-15). A convincing and refreshing book.
