It's funny to see some of the "tricks" he uses on us to "get his way". It's improved his behavior. I'm glad I bought it.
Laura Ritenour5 Stars Out Of 5Shocking Title - Great PerspectiveJanuary 21, 2011Laura RitenourQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My strong willed young teen devoured this book and will quote "Mr. Obvious" when something happens at home now. How to stop your parents from nagging? "Mr. Obvious says, 'Do it the first time.' " Can't say a single book is going to solve all issues of growing up, but to have things stated from a youth perspective or to give the adult perspective with a Christian base is wonderful.
Joanne Weller5 Stars Out Of 5September 24, 2010Joanne WellerI could've used this either as a teen or as a mother of a teen. Now I help tweens & teens in my area. This book is AWESOME! It's written in a way kids & parents will enjoy. It's great how it helps to empower today's teen with fun, facts & workable solutions.
Danielle4 Stars Out Of 5August 28, 2010DanielleI bought this for my 8 1/2 year old son. It is a little old for him but since I'm reading it to him, I skip over the parts that aren't relevant to his age right now. It's a great book and I'm glad I bought it.
Janet5 Stars Out Of 5August 21, 2010JanetExcellent! After I gave this book to a tween relative, [from a non-Christian home], i asked what she liked? She said she learned: to not talk back to her parents because it wasn't helpful in the situation; the chapter entitled, "Why all the yelling?" was pertinent. The 1 1/4 pages discussing parents that have drug & alcohol issues confirmed what she'd heard before & was comforting. The parents also read some of the book & gave it their approval & no doubt were encouraged by the communication skills advice in it. I think the book is written in a witty way, keeping anyone's attention, yet sharing lots of wisdom. There are only a few Bible verses listed or references to God. But that does not take away from it handling the material shrewdly -- often in a step-by-step manner on how a teen can communicate more effectively while developing tools of empathy. Also, suggestions are made on how to handle those erratic emotions in dealing with parents/others, ie. "write a letter", "avoid sarcasm". The lay-out of the book is engaging making it a joy to read: with a lots of brightly colored pics, mixed with Lists of "Do's & Don'ts" & quotes, all on glossy pages. Wished I had this when i was a teen!!!
