Tell us a little about yourself. Tawana Jackson, a native of Washington DC, attended George Washington University where she received certification in Emergency Medical Technology. She is also a Certified Life Coach, has an Associates Degree in Biblical Studies, and a Bachelors Degree in Theology at the Trinity Bible Institute. Tawana is the writer of two books, Stretched but not broken and its sequel soon to be released, Saved but not Delivered.
What was your motivation behind this project? My motivation behind writing Stretched but not broken was that I possessed some of the same hardships of Mia, the main character. I was that little girl growing up trying to face grown-up sexual feelings of loss and devastation at the age of five after being raped and physical abuse. Rape is so overwhelming in the lives of those that have been its victim that I felt the need to write this fiction about how God has saved me from death over and over again.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Every year over million souls leave this earth because of suicide. One in every four women is raped, one in every 10 men is raped and the end results are sometimes death either spiritually or physically if God isnt allowed to heal the hurt and brokenness. My hope is to begin aware to these tragedies by telling my story.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? This project forced me to heal past hurts that I didn't know I had. It allowed me to forgive family members as well as myself.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Two of my favorite authors are Kimberla Lawson Roby and Victoria Christopher Murray. Their stories are very real and necessary.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: When you think life is over and all hope is gone, trust and believe that God has another plan for your life.
