For years, the beloved classic devotional Streams in the Desert has sustained and replenished Gods weary desert travelers. Now, bursting forth like a sparkling clear river of wisdom, encouragement, and inspiration, this updated edition of Streams in the Desert promises to revive and refresh todays generation of faithful sojourners, providing daily Scripture passages from the popular, readable New International Versionand modern, easy-to-understand language that beautifully captures the timeless essence of the original devotional. I said, The desert is so wide! I said, The desert is so bare! What springs the quench my thirst are there? Where will I from the tempest hide? In a barren wilderness, L. B. Cowman long ago discovered a fountain that sustained her, and she shared it with the world. Streams in the Deserther collection of prayerful meditations, Christian writings, and Gods written promiseshas become one of the most dearly loved, best-selling devotionals of all time since its first publication in 1925. Filled with insight into the richness of Gods provision and the purpose of his plan, this enduring classic has encouraged and inspired generations of Christians. I heard the flow of hidden springs; Before me palms rose green and fair; The birds were singing; all the air Was filled and stirred with angels wings. Now James Reimann, editor of the highly acclaimed, updated edition of My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers, again brings us the wisdom of the past in the language of today by introducing this updated edition of Streams in the Desert. With fresh, contemporary wording and precise NIV text, the timeless message of the original flows unhindered through these pages, lending guidance and hope to a new generation of believers. Day by day, Streams in the Desert will lead you from lifes dry, desolate places to the waters of the River of Lifeand beyond, to their very Source.
L. B. Cowman worked as a pioneer missionary with her husband in Japan and China from 1901 to 1917, during which time they helped found the Oriental Missionary Society. When Mr. Cowman's poor health forced the couple to return to the United States, Mrs. Cowman turned her attention to caring for her husband until his death six years later. Out of Mrs. Cowman's experiences and heartbreak came her first book, Streams in the Desert, followed by its companion Springs in the Valley. During the next twenty-five years, Mrs. Cowman inspired several nationwide Scripture distribution campaigns and wrote seven more books. Finally, on Easter Sunday in 1960, at the age of ninety, Mrs. Cowman met face-to-face the God she had served so faithfully for nearly a century.
Jim Reimann has more than five million books in print in twelve languages, including the updated editions of Streams in the Desert and My Utmost for His Highest. He was a former retail executive and past chairman of the Christian Booksellers Association. As an ordained minister, Bible teacher, author, and expert on Israel, he hosted teaching tours of Israel and other Bible lands, which he offered through his website. www.JimReimann.com
Joan5 Stars Out Of 5Gold Nuggets For Every SeasonOctober 4, 2014Joan"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver." [Proverbs 25:11]
Sometimes you just have to sit back and let yourself be amazed again and again at the good 'before-hand' of our great Lord! I'm sure L. B. Cowman never would have imagined the degree to which God would use her painful experiences to bless all of us --even to this day, long past her home-going. Streams In The Desert is the product of Mrs. Cowman gathering and compiling nuggets from the writings and oratories of Augustine, Phillips Brooks, Henry Drummond, Jonathan Edwards, A.B. Simpson, Emerson, Longfellow, Frances R. Havergal, Harriet Beecher Stowe and a host of others into one place for her personal healing and comfort. This gem has survived well beyond her death (her falling asleep) because it has been appointed by God for ALL our times --our seasons. We all need encouraging especially "in the night seasons". This is my third purchase for a friend and family who are going through or are coming through 'something'. But this little gem isn't just for the hard times. What a great gift to us, from the Lord through Mrs. Cowman,to help prepare us to faithfully FACE the painful time(s) coming into our lives, our homes, with our children or grandchildren. And, WHAT a gift to give!
As for the product. It's ribboned, it's housed in a beautifully soft walnut Italian, it's the right size for display wherever or to carry in a purse or business satchel or briefcase, backpack --whatever. At it's so readable thanks to Jim Reimann who has done a superb job once again by making the original work accessible to our 21st Century minds and eyes, without fiddling with Cowman or all contributing authors' work. For me (and maybe you will, too), I was introduced to some deep Christian thinkers of yesterday who I never met in print. This was another blessing on my purchase(s); I was encouraged to search out these saints of yesterday who've become new friends! Finally, CBD (for me) tops any price! They just continue to offer the best product for the best value. Five stars is my only option here to recommend this product highly. But it really gets SEVEN stars from me. Thank you for reading my review.

It is a very nice hard cover with paper jacket to keep track of your place in the book. Much food for thought is given, especially if you are in a time of challenge, difficulty, sorrow or just plain struggling with the issues of life.
