What would God say about those who blatantly misrepresent His Holy Spirit; who exchange true worship for chaotic fits of mindless ecstasy; who replace the biblical gospel with vain illusions of health and wealth; who claim to prophesy in His name yet speak errors; and who sell false hope to desperate people for millions of dollars?
The charismatic movement has always been a breeding-ground for scandal, greed, bad doctrine, and all kinds of spiritual chicanery. As a movement, it is clearly headed the wrong direction. And it is growing at an unprecedented rate.
From the Word of Faith to the New Apostolic Reformation, the Charismatic movement is being consumed by the empty promises of the prosperity gospel. Too many charismatic celebrities promote a "Christianity" without Christ, a Holy Spirit without holiness. And their teaching is having a disastrous influence on a grand scale, as large television networks broadcast their heresies to every part of the world.
In Strange Fire, bestselling author and pastor John MacArthur chronicles the unsavory history behind the modern Charismatic movement. He lays out a chilling case for rejecting its false prophets, speaking out against their errors, showing true reverence to the Holy Spirit, and above all clinging to the Bible as the inerrant, authoritative Word of God and the one true standard by which all truth claims must be tested.
John MacArthur is the pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, president of the Masters University and Seminary, and featured teacher with the Grace to You media ministry. Grace to You radio, video, audio, print, and website resources reach millions worldwide each day. In more than four decades of ministry, John has written dozens of bestselling books, including the MacArthur New Testament Commentary series, The Gospel According to Jesus, Twelve Ordinary Men, Twelve Extraordinary Women, Slave, and The MacArthur Study Bible. He and his wife, Patricia, have four married children and fifteen grandchildren.

cbcarter4 Stars Out Of 5Made his point.September 19, 2015cbcarterQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I won't bore you with repeating all the reviews listed here. It was well written, documented, and forthright. And yes, it was a bit strident. We aren't used to people naming names. I for one appreciate it. Why not. What I am amazed by is that a Jehovah's witness left a review (negative of course) and SIX people, so far, found it helpful. For those really ignorant in their theology, the JW's are a heretical non-Christian religion. They deny virtually every cardinal Christian doctrine there is. And yet six people found the review helpful. Please John, don't insult the charismatics? Perhaps if believers would actually study their scriptures John wouldn't have so much work to do. Swallow a camel and choke on a gnat for sure. Wake up people. Buy the book. Ignore the tone. Learn something and leave your emotions on the nightstand. Blessings
billy1 Stars Out Of 5False Doctrine by a false teacherJuly 21, 2015billyQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1This man is a theologian.Just like in Jesus' day.And he is doing the same thing his religious Fathers and Doctors of the Law did to our Lord.He thinks he is so smart.
And what is much worse. He is brazenly blaspheming God,,His servants and His Holy Spirit.
Blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is a sin that even the Cross of Calvary and Divine Blood cannot pardon.
If one does this LORD GOD ALMIGHTY
becomes their enemy and His love is all used up for that soul. They are damned forever.
That goes for laymen. And so called preachers or theologians, professors or anyone else.
Dide5 Stars Out Of 5A Great Read!January 21, 2015DideQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This book was very well written. I felt I was becoming lax in how I looked at things and this author made me see the truth. Every Christian in our world today should read this book. I love how the author states exactly what he thinks and backs it up with scripture.
Manzapaloma1 Stars Out Of 5Strange FireDecember 2, 2014ManzapalomaThis is the worst reading experience I have ever had. --- I do not recommend this reading. The author condemns ALL charismatic movements, period. --- The Holy Spirit provide gifts to everyone and is except to you to use it well. If he consider himself gifted in the knowledge of the word of God, he failed to show that the Holy Spirit corrects, is counselor, a guide and encourage others. When you move in the Holy Spirit you do not demonize your fellow christians, neither send them to hell. Instead, you instruct with love and kindness to encourage change and spiritual growth. I think the author need time in prayer and fasting before he commits to talk about the Holy Spirit. I do not watch TV, but the rare times I have watched some TV christian programing I have found some not to benefit the gospel of Jesus Christ and I do agree that there are things thats needs correction. But to go as far as saying ALL pentecostals, and ALL charismatic movement is erroneous, I must say the author has failed to have reasonable judgement.
