What would God sayabout those who blatantly misrepresent His Holy Spirit; who exchange trueworship for chaotic fits of mindless ecstasy; who replace the biblical gospelwith vain illusions of health and wealth; who claim to prophesy in His name yetspeak errors; and who sell false hope to desperate people for millions ofdollars?
The charismatic movement has always been a breeding-groundfor scandal, greed, bad doctrine, and all kinds of spiritual chicanery. As amovement, it is clearly headed the wrong direction. And it is growing at anunprecedented rate.
From the Word of Faith to the New Apostolic Reformation, theCharismatic movement is being consumed by the empty promises of the prosperitygospel. Too many charismatic celebrities promote a Christianity withoutChrist, a Holy Spirit without holiness. And their teaching is having adisastrous influence on a grand scale, as large television networks broadcasttheir heresies to every part of the world.
In Strange Fire, bestselling author and pastor John MacArthur chronicles the unsavory historybehind the modern Charismatic movement. He lays out a chilling case forrejecting its false prophets, speaking out against their errors, showing truereverence to the Holy Spirit, and above all clinging to the Bible as the inerrant, authoritative Word of God and the one true standard by which all truth claimsmust be tested.
Dide5 Stars Out Of 5A Great Read!January 21, 2015DideQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This book was very well written. I felt I was becoming lax in how I looked at things and this author made me see the truth. Every Christian in our world today should read this book. I love how the author states exactly what he thinks and backs it up with scripture.
Manzapaloma1 Stars Out Of 5Strange FireDecember 2, 2014ManzapalomaThis is the worst reading experience I have ever had. --- I do not recommend this reading. The author condemns ALL charismatic movements, period. --- The Holy Spirit provide gifts to everyone and is except to you to use it well. If he consider himself gifted in the knowledge of the word of God, he failed to show that the Holy Spirit corrects, is counselor, a guide and encourage others. When you move in the Holy Spirit you do not demonize your fellow christians, neither send them to hell. Instead, you instruct with love and kindness to encourage change and spiritual growth. I think the author need time in prayer and fasting before he commits to talk about the Holy Spirit. I do not watch TV, but the rare times I have watched some TV christian programing I have found some not to benefit the gospel of Jesus Christ and I do agree that there are things thats needs correction. But to go as far as saying ALL pentecostals, and ALL charismatic movement is erroneous, I must say the author has failed to have reasonable judgement.

It basically says that the charismatic movement with the focus on speaking in toques is subject to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons. It is a very through presentation and deals with all the objections. Puts the scripture above experience. The Bible is not interpreted by experience but experience by the Bible. Good emphasis on the miracles that Jesus and the apostles practised and how they are not and are relevant to today. It is a little legalistic in places as is characteristic of MacArthur.
Abby5 Stars Out Of 5Superlative Book.November 25, 2014AbbyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Mr. MacArthur writes down, in a conscise manner, what my "vague discomfort" was when I attended the Pentecostal church. And, he shows in an honest and clear way the danger of admiring and following the Charismatic, "health, wealth, and prosperity gospel" television evangelists. (And, he names name's. He doesn't dance around and be vague.)
It's the 3rd part of this book that is so refreshing. He tells, with Biblical support, the true work of the Holy Spirit.
This book is meat, for adults; not milk for children.
Personally, I would recommend reading the last part first, then reading the first 2 parts. His anger at the gross misrepresentation of the Holy Spirit definitely comes through loud and clear.
