This is one of my all time favorite works. It is very well written, easy to read and understand. The information contained in this single volume is a must read for any person that is truly interested in understanding the "Story of Christianity." If you are a teacher or pastor I would place this work next to my Bible as a great reference.

I am a first year seminary student. My Christian History professor required this author's first volume for the course. The seminary's bookstore was out which was the best thing that could have happened. I was able to purchase this book which contains both the first and second volume at a lower price than the first volume alone would have cost through the campus bookstore. On top of that, this book is hard bound instead of soft cover.
On to the content:
First, a disclaimer: I am basing my comments on the part of the book I have read. I have not had the opportunity to do more than skim the major portion of the book, but what I have seen does not lead me to believe that my comments will be any less valid for the latter part than the parts that I have read.
I could go on to describe the contents. It is, after all, a history book and there is not much one can add to that. What I will say is that it is a great addition to my bookshelves and stands alone as a good book to read. The book takes sections of history such as from the early apostolic time to the rise of Constantine and then breaks each major section down into chapters that carry a theme such as First Conflicts with the State or The Defense of the Faith.
The style of writing is engaging. I could read this book for hours, even if I did not have to. This is one book that I would highly recommend.

Received this hard-to find two books in one version. It was priced competitively well below that of the two separate volumes. Delivery was as promised, and well packaded to prevent damage to this beautiful hard cover book.

I've only recently been introduced to Justo Gonzalez, and I've only read this and a shorter overview he wrote.
Very, very good! Interesting and easy to read. Highly recommended as an introduction to the history of the church.

An excellent resource for the study of Church History. Chapters are divided into segments starting a new topic.

I love this book! It is a great comprehensive overview of Church History laid out chronilogically as well as catagorically. He communicates in an easy, understandable manner. I have been so ignorant regarding history of the church and this book really fills the void well. I also bought a copy for a friend for Christmas.

I'm a new student in theology so my experience is limited but I do think this text is clear and easy to read. It follows an historical progression in a detailed yet understandable manner.
